HMC Neo Scene and Vegas

Hey so I was wondering if any one has any experience editing HMC150 footage using Neo Scene and Vegas in a 64bit envirionment.

I would really like to run Vista Ultimate 64bit and Vegas 64bit but I am going to need to transcode using something as I don't want to have all the real time playback issues that I keep hearing about.

I think that Raylight only works with 32bit Vegas as it is a plugin correct? The way I understand it, Neo Scene is acutally a stand alone conversion app? This just gets all confusing and frustrating some times, I just don't want to buy software that wont work with my preferred setup, i.e. 64bit.

Thanks

I use Neo Scene with Vista 64 bit. If you are buying (or already have) a newer Quad Core computer with Vista 64 bit, you can probably edit the AVCHD files without the lag issues. My Quad Core with 4g RAM handles it natively with no problem.

But as far as transcoding goes, I use Neo Scene for a number of reasons:

1. Cineform is a better codec IMO than DVCPro and I can work with it in Vegas, Premiere Pro 2.0, After Effects, etc.

2. Cineform edits in real time on my 3 yr. old Dual Core laptop. I can't edit the AVCHD clips on it without serious lag.

3. The Cineform codec works within all my windows based programs, so I can use TMPGEnc or other encoders to convert other formats to Cineform.

4. Neo Scene is less expensive than Raylight

5. Neo Scene will remove pulldown from 24p footage from my HV30 (doesn't matter unless you have a Canon HV series camera)

What the DaFireMedic said.

Plus with Neo you get intra frame, 4:2:2 10 bit color which in this case won't make your images look better but if you do a lot of effects, color corrections and or keying it should hold up better with less quality loss.
