HMC for me?

Soon I am graduating from college and with that I lose all the free equipment I could ever want.. So I have to buy a camera soon.

I have been shooting with the hvx200 for about 2 years and absolutely love it, but I don't love its pricetag. I took notice of the hmc150 when it came out and find it very intriguing. I am seriously considering buying this camera in the near the future and would like some feedback.

Obviously I would like to go with the HVX but it's a little too much for my budget. The fact that the hmc150 shoots on sd cards instead of pricey p2 is quite attractive to me.

Also the lowlight performance seems amazing to me but I have not used the hvx200a and am unsure if they react the same.

The only reason I am apprehensive is the AVCHD workflow.... I have a Core Duo MBP running FCP 6 and am worried that the transfer times will be too long. I also think that ProRes might be a little overkill for my purposes as I am used to DVCPRO HD. I'm just afraid to buy a camera that my system can't handle, mostly because it will be a little while before I can get a Mac Pro.

What do you think? Can my system handle AVCHD or should I just pony up and go with the HVX?

I have a three year old MBP, core duo, 2.16ghz, 2GB ram and also run FCP 6.

Transfer speeds to ProRes are about the same as real-time, sometimes slightly longer. Editing is a breeze. I've had no problem editing multiple layers of videos with effects. ProRes goes extremely fast and easy. SOOO much easier than back when I used mini-dv tapes. Don't worry avchd is an easy and efficient format to use. My only complaint would be prores files are a little large. But with storage space being so cheap now it's not really an issue.

The HMC150 is a really great cam, you should be able to edit fine after transcoding. The cam is such a screaming deal relative to other options in its price class. Get the HMC. You'll love it.

If you're concerned about how your system will handle the AVCHD footage I know some people have posted samples. Why don't you download some of them and check them out for yourself?
(By the way, you should definitely buy this camera.) :)
