HMC and NanoFlash recorder

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find any statement or reports througout the web. I asked Dan Keaton from Convergent Design and he responded, that as far as he knows there are some DOPs using the Nanoflash with the HMC. At convergent Design they made a test with the HPX 170, though I didnt find any samples. Since the HMC 150's HDMI output is the same 4:2:2 as on the HPX 170, this should work, but is the gained quality justifying the investment? For my next project I have to go with 4:2:2 broadcast standart, so the alternative is upgrading to a HPX 170.

I don't think hmc sends 4:2:2.

I'm think it does, although I haven't tested it.

To the OP, how about recording 1080p, and then simply convert to DVCpro HD afterwards, the result will probably be indistinguishable from native HPX170 recording.

Someone told me that there is a good reason, why Broadcasters ask for 4:2:2 since 4:2:0 signals tend to fall apart in the post sometimes, no matter if they've been converted to 4:2:2 before. If that happens, I'd probably loose my TV- credibility even before I got started ... ;-)

Here is a sample of what I think might happen:

HMC 150 has 4:2:2 HDMI Color

HMC 150 has 4:2:2 HDMI Color

I recently asked Panasonic this very question & here's their answer.

We are sorry for having taken some time in replying to you.
The HDMI output color data is "Y Cb Cr" = 4:2:2.
