hmc 40 rig question

Hi,

I'm very interested in the hmc 40 but I wanted to hear your opinion about a rig I was thinking about.

Hmc 40 + letus mini = awesome!?

From Barry's tests, the 40's sharpness is great in 1080p so it could potentially look better then the 150.
Also, maybe I got it completely wrong but is it true that using a 35mm adapter with a fast lens increases the overall brightness? - I mean, can it possibly solve a little of the 40's low light issues?

I know this kind of setup hinders the 40's portability, but I think this is probably the cheapest shallow dof rig on a pro level camcorder (by that I mean pro audio and high video bit rate) which is the main attraction for me on the 40.

What do you think? Is this the ultimate, cheapest kit? or do you foresee problems with my plan? (maybe something about the 3mos sensor...)

And if anyone is planning on making a rig similar to this, please share your experience.

Thanks,
Nadav

P.S
Is the hmc 40 gonna get it's own separate thread anytime soon?

No if the camera has low light problems then using a 35mm adapter will make them MUCH worse.

You usually lose 1 stop of light through the optics and the GG. Then add the lens; even a fast 50mm f1.2 still loses a stop plus you usually stop down the aperture a couple stops to get some working room. For instance I normally shoot at f4, too shallow DOF can be murder as your actors move slightly. If you think the low light is problem it will be a huge problem once you are losing 5 stops of light.

I just got my Letus35 Mini for my HMC40. Works great, though the low light is an issue, it's still a good investment. Make sure you use prime lenses, not zoom lenses. The prime lenses lose less light and allow for better DOF.

Just throwing it out there - I would go with a GH1 over a 35mm adapter on any HMC... love the low light performance and having an additional camera...
