HMC 150 + Premiere Pro 4.2

What are the highest settings one would use to export the highest possible quality footage from the 150 using Premiere Pro CS4? I would think that H.264 would be the most obvious codec to output with 1920x1080 & 23.976 fps, but not sure if there's an upper limit at which you could set the bitrate where there is no more benefit from making it any higher.

For reference, this is for clients that just want me to shoot and want a dump of the footage that they can edit and work with themselves.

This is what I have been using for video settings. Wasn't sure if anyone had any feelings either way about it.

P.S. - I thought about whether this should be posted here or in the Premiere subforum but I thought it was related to footage from the HMC150. Sorry if it ruffles any feathers

Highest possible quality would be uncompressed. Or you could use lossless compression like lagarith. Filesizes will be huge

If the clients just want a "dump" , give them the native files instead of going through premiere. Not only is this quicker, there would be no quality lost

I would have to agree. Just dump the cards onto an External HDD and give that to them.

Yep, the 'dump" is your best option. However .... if your clients insist on getting it in an intermediate format you definitely dont want to output to H.264 - very lossy!

One possibility - Cineform has a 1-week free trial on the encoder for their (very high quality) codec, and their decoder is free and never expires. If you just have to do this one time, you could encode in CFHD and sent them a link to the decoder along with the footage.

I export to P2 all the time going between After Effects and Premiere... since that's what DVCProHD is I assume it should be a fine intermediary codec, and it's compatible with essentially every NLE.

Using Premiere Pro it looks like my only (apparent) uncompressed output option is "Uncompressed Microsoft AVI" with video codec options for V210 or UYVY.

In the end, it probably is best to just give the entire Private folder with everything inside as a 'dump' of footage. It still leaves me with a bit uncertain as to what to export to for something that I have edited and want to export at the highest possible quality.

Is "P2 Movie" the only option that is native in Premiere Pro CS4 that is an acceptable method to output? Forgive the perhaps stupid question but would having the trial (and possible purchased version) of Cineform give me the CF codec as an export option in Premiere?

wait - h264 is really lossy?

I mean I know its not lossless, but I thought it was meant to be pretty good?
