HMC 150 and Premiere Pro CS4?

Is anyone using the HMC 150 and Premiere CS4? If so, is it working well?
What about the Matrox RT X2 HD?

I'm currently using the Matrox RT X100 and Premiere Pro 2.0 with my DVX100B and I get a strobing effect on my external monitor while capturing. When I play the captured video back, it's fine.

Thanks,
Phil L.

Premiere is very good ... but if you want something really professional, use canopus edius. Edius will give you much more features and agility in their video editing and is more compatible with matrox and panasonic.

Edius isn't any more or less "professional" than CS4. As far as AVCHD, it is a good match. Pana is including it with the HMC150- so they seem to like it.

I'm a long time Edius user (since 1.0 and betas). I love the program, but recently have been using CS4 more due to it's integration with AfterFX and Encore whhich I use for Blu-Ray authoring. To say one is more professional than the other is silly. They are both Professional apps if you use them to make money.
The RT preview in CS4 is quite good. I can edit HMC150 AVCHD files right off the SDHC cards in RT with layers of video , effects and titles then just dynamic link to Encore and author the DVD. Render once. Nice.

Thanks for the info gang! Much appreciated. I'm thinking of selling both my DVX100Bs to get an HMC 150. But then, I have to upgrade to the Matrox RT X2 HD and beef up my PC or build a new one from scratch. I also would like to go 64 bit, which means VISTA! Not sure about that one! lol

Thanks agin,
Phil

Wait.... Go with Windows 7 64bit.. It smokes Vista. Let me explain.. I built my new rig (i7) had Windows 7 64 bit on my other PC. Installed 7 on my new rig and was amazed at how fast it was. I was just assuming it was due to it being a fast PC. All my apps installed so fast! Adobe master collection usually takes an hour to install. Installed on Win7 in like 5-10 min! I had the PC completely set up in like an hour!
But... After installing RC1 I found out that I would need to do a complete re-format/re-install when Win7 final came out. Since I had already purchased Vista 64 with a free Win7 upgrade I decided to dump the RC of Win7 and do the vista deal then upgrade to Win7 in October when my free copy arrives.
Same PC.. Vista took HOURS to install and set up with my apps! It boots slower, and just seems slower!

You will like Windows 7 64bit.

You are wrong friend. Edius has more productivity, better codec, better arrangement of windows, real time, better compatibility with Panasonic and P2 card. Dedicated hardware,
TitleMotion Pro (excellent)
Premiere still have a ways to go before they match the edius.

I "begrudgingly" agree that EDIUS is a pretty darn awesome program, BUT... the Premier CS4 integration with AE and Encore is something that cannot be ignored. It's why I always end up back on Premier instead of FCP.
Hmmmmph! I wish I could use The Force and just merge the 3 of them.

I don't understand most of these examples that you gave. What's "better productivity?" and "better codec?"

As for P2 integration you drag and drop the MXF file straight on the Premiere timeline and edit straightaway so...how does it get better than that? And of course if you have the right system spec then performance is real time.

Premiere's workspace is also fully configurable.

I have been using Premiere Pro CS4 with AVCHD for a little while and I like it. The only thing that is making me a little nutty right now is I cannot figure out how to get Premiere to see the timecode of the files. I import all my files and each files timecode starts at 00;00;00;00. I had syncd the timecode of two 150's in hopes that I would be able to use it as it is intended, but if you can do it I sure can't figure it out....

Other than that it has been good... Oh, one other thing that I do not like is that Premiere will not stitch the split clips together. If you just put them back to back in the timeline there is an audio glitch, so they have to be put together in a 3rd party program.

There is a similar problem with HDV that is shot to a card. We have a Sony CF Card recorder that we attach to out HDV cameras and Premiere cannot stich the clip together, BUT Sony has a utility that you can download for free that you use to transfer the files from the card to your HDD and it stiches all the clips together that need to be. It does not take any longer to use that utility for transfer from the card to the HDD than it would just to copy and paste. I wish that panasonic would come out with something like that for AVCHD. Right now I import all the files and then go back and stitch the clips that need to be stiched...

My friend, last time I checked premiere CS4 also includes Media Encoder, OnLocation, and Encore DVD authoring- all of which work seemlessly together. Hows that for productivity.

The Edius works for you and thats great, but again- don't shoot down other apps as "less-professional" in comparison just becuase of your preference.

OK, just a little update to my timecode issue.

I just took one of my cards that had 100 min of video and converted it to P2 with the Main Concept converter and the timecode is there. So it must be that Premiere does not support timecode with AVCHD. Why they would support a format halfway is beyond me. For a lot of my projects the timecode really is not all that important to me, but for some it is very important. It really surprises me that they would not allow it to read the TC. Hopefully there is just something that I am missing still, but I do not think so since it worked just fine after being converted to P2.
