Hmc 150, 151, 152...

It is a designation as to where in the world they are released (Japan, US, Europe, etc...). It is all the same camera (aside from PAL/NTSC differences).

There are no new releases to my knowledge, the models you mention are already here.

The 150 is the NTSC model, the 152 is the PAL model & the 151 does both formats :)
There are also 153 & 154 models but I'm unsure of their dedicated region.

Hopefully instead of Panasonic releasing new variants of the same camera (like the three DVX flavours before it) they can just make firmware updates available to users so that we can update our own cameras with improved functionality :)

Considering that all of these new cameras use software based operating systems this should be relatively easy to do - just like it is for the JVC ProHD cameras :)

I'd like to suggest that when Panasonic releases a firmware update for the 150 series that they include a menu option especially for us 35mm lens users where you can flip the image in-camera (not just on the LCD) and perhaps also an option to disable the focus ring completely :)

Ah. Enlightment!

Thank you. And the HMC 151E (just saw that version at the HMC forum at Vimeo) is also just the same camera with some regional suffix (the E)?

yep, the hmc151 (witch does PAL and NTSC) is only available in Europe. That's where the E comes from. Hmc152 is available in Australia and the hmc150 is the ntsc model (for Japan and America). There are also 104, 103 versions for other parts of the world (I guess they are all Pal models).

It's already got that. Slide the focus/iris switch to IRIS, and the focus ring is disabled.

Thanks Barry, I kinda knew that, what I actually meant was to disable it completely so that it does not adjust the iris either.

Maybe if you hold the switch between the two setings ha ha!! :D
