Alex,

I've been following this thread and your work with interest. A couple of questions:

1. In the Arri comparison on your page (in-depth): The overall look is very nice, and the small differences are to be expected given the level of cameras that is being compared. However, in the GH frames, there seems to be clipping in the blue building trim in the background on the daylight frame (bottom right of the grid of four frames).
2. When looking at the Van Gough painting, the oranges/yellow are way less saturated in the GH frames compared to the Arri frames.

Since I don't have any expectations for the GH5 to compete or perfectly match with an Alexa, these are simply questions to better understand your thinking, approach, and what you make of these observations after investing a lot of time and effort into your LUTs.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Yes, those are solid observations. Here are the factors that contribute to the gap between them, to the best of my knowledge.

The conversions are imperfect. Since making them (after going through the process fully) I have become aware of flaws in my process, both where they are and why they are. I'm developing software now to address that, among other things (long horizon)
Next, though not affecting the shots very much, the GH5 sensor falls short of the Alexa's, in terms of the amount of dynamic range, and the extremes of saturation that can be captured without hue twists. Blue and magenta were most affected by hue twists at the extremes. Typically these saturation extremes are not encountered, and the hue twist is not meaningful at all, in the perception of the image.
The side by side test itself was done early on and was flawed, I would do it differently today (with access, which is pricey). I used different lenses to do a simultaneous side by side (a significant mistake), and exposure was slightly mismatched.

Since I don't have any expectations for the GH5 to compete or perfectly match with an Alexa

You may be in for a surprise (long horizon)
