I tried using the GH1 to shoot some still photographs recently, and was surprised to find that neither the histogram nor LCD illumination was responding to my exposure level. I'm used to these indicators working as you'd expect in video mode, so I'm puzzled as to why they aren't working the same way for still photography.
Here are my camera settings:
M - manual exposure
iExposure - off
Meter - spot + average
LCD - [Xoff]
ISO - 200
WB - sunlight
Shutter - 60
Aperture - set on lens
While the horizontal exposure meter at bottom center of the LCD works as usual, neither the historam nor the LCD screen dim as I reduce the ISO, or increase the shutter speed or aperture setting on the lens (and the camera does read the correct aperture from the Four Thirds lens). If I cup my hand over the lens, the histogram goes to black, so it is responding to light entering the lens.
Maybe this is some kind of user-friendly mode that keeps the LCD bright no matter how dim your exposure is? If so, how do you turn it off?
