Hissing sound

I just realized that my DVX100a makes a hissing sound when in the camera mode. It is silent in the VCR mode and even if I am not recording, it still makes that hissing sound...which makes me think it's not the sound of the wheels turning the tape cause it happens in the pause mode also. Of course this problem comes just 2 weeks after my 1 year warranty expires. Has anyone had this issue before? Any idea what it could be?

Are you talking about when you monitor the sound from headphones connected to the DVX? If you are, that hiss you hear is just some boosting the DVX100A is doing. Owners of the older non A version complained that the headphone out jack was too quiet so they made it louder, but they also introduced some hiss into it. When you import it into your computer and play it there, the hiss should be gone.

I'm assuming you're talking about normal hiss. If this is some crazy siren wailing hiss, then yeah, something might be wrong. Otherwise, dont' worry.

No i am talking about when the thing is on in the camera mode. You can hear it even like 5 feet away and the mic picks it up in the recording of it. It's awful.

If it goes away when the camera goes in standby, than it's the heads motor. Put the camera in pause and leave it alone for 5 mins until it goes in standby off (check the setting in the menu). I've seen it a few times - it needs replacing.
