Hiking tripod

Is anyone using a video tripod while hiking? I would like some recommendations as I will be doing some personal projects that require 5-10 mile hikes. I know there will be some compromises between weight & rigidity but I would like to hear from someone experienced in this area. My budget is roughly $400 and I will only be mounting a DSLR with standard lens & FF/Rails. TIA

I've been using a Manfrotto 190CX3 with a 701HDV on hikes. It's lightweight and steadiness can be achieved by hanging your bag from it. Only problem? Leveling, but you can order a center post with a bowl with this tripod.

If they sell a 701HDV kit that has a carbon fiber tripod, that's the way I'd go today, as long as you have a bowl. It was necessary for me to purchase them separately before but the total cost was still within your budget.

A friend of mine who shoots on a 5Dm2 (no rails or FF) travels all over doing hikes and swears by Induro tripods. If you're only out for the day (not backpacking over several days) then you shoudl be able to strap it to your pack and deal with the weight. If you're going out for several days, your weight load might be a bit much, with all your food/camping equipment.
