FS7: Highlight Aliasing & Color Fringing Internal HD FS7/FS5

I've been shooting on the FS700 since it came out. I often like to shoot in high contrast areas or heavy flares. This has often resulted in highlight aliasing and color fringing when shooting internal HD AVCHD on the FS700. This was caused by the internal downsampling of the camera.

I was hoping Sony would fix it like other companies have done, but no luck. Fortunately, the 7Q did fix this issue in 4K & 4K2HD.

I've got a FS5 on preorder mainly to be able to shoot 10bit HD in a much smaller package. My concern would be if the internal HD would still suffer from the highlight issue. Anyone who owns a FS7 notice this problem?

I only shoot Cine-I 4K with my fs7 and shoot into the sun a lot....I have never seen any of the problems you are talking about....

I had an fs100 and the highlight aliasing was horrible which got worse the more sharpening that was added in camera. I have an fs7 and never seen anything like that and I've tested for it. The fs7 in CineEI mode is awesome.

some people above have reported highlight aliasing in Custom mode, if true, just use CineEI like us cool kids.

The best solution is fatter codecs with less compression.

I don't think it has anything to do with codecs, it looks like sharpening happens at the point of over exposure. Crispening happens on chrome highlights etc so the sharpening circuit sees the transition to overexposure as an edge.

Shot my feature in 4K XAVC-I and never ran into this at all. i did turn sharpening down right after getting the camera so maybe that was a factor.

While I generally shoot in CineEI, I have always found in Sony cameras that you really need to lower sharpening. This would apply to the FS7 in Custom Mode.

What are good settings for sharpness? I have always just kept my detail circuit off but still felt the camera might be too sharp. Are you guys recommending turning it on but going into negative numbers?
