i'm wondering what the highest iso i can use with my fs100 while still producing a clean, noise-free image.

i know that abel cine rated the fs100 at 500 but i was wondering how far fs100 users have pushed the image.

1000/iso?

1200/iso?

thoughts?

thanks in advance to those who care to share.

be well.

It largely depends on what you consider a "clean image" and what you're shooting. I've shot at 800 ISO before with a surprisingly clean image. Most of the noise you see in the upper ISO range tends to be compression artifacting, so the less smooth surfaces you film, the less noise you tend to notice.

Though the degree of noise acceptable is an opinion, I've shot at 2000 and 4000 ISO with what I found surprisingly little noise.

This is quite an accurate statement. I believe to our eyes we will notice a bit of noise; it's not unpleasant
though or really visible. To a normal individual they will notice. Higher ISO's are within the scope of usable as
well. 6400 is not out of the question when shooting some event's. I prefer to have some depth of field
and don't like going below f/2.8 generally.

Generally anything below 2000 ISO you won't notice noise unless you really pixel peep.

I'll say I've shot footage at max setting for a documentary on skateboarding that was to be in black
and white after with very large amounts of contrast and a harsh grade and it worked rather nicely.
Coming from a DSLR background a bit before my AF100 the noise I find in this camera is quite
pleasant.

And if you are denoising afterwards sky's pretty much the limit depending on how much
you are willing soften the image.

With all of this said my max is generally around 8,000. Event work deems I get the shot however
so I willl do what I need on the shoot and denoise later if needed. Generally the camera needs
a ND filter for most of the day!
