High School Production Class Advice

The ZR's are a good choice, and Laptops should be fine for the groups (Although make sure none get stolen, 40 is a lot).

However, the I-Pods seem frivolous. But that side you WILL need more ZR's. At least 1 more, but preferrably 2 more ZR's. You'll find having only two will slow things down a lot, more so if one of them breaks or becomes inoperable?

My HS's film class a bit back, we were using GL's & ZR's as well actually, and filming hundreds of hours on a few of them (TV Show) and when one of them broke we were in doubly trouble. Hell, we had our GL1 break and sent it in for repairs and we never got it back, well at least I graduated and the thing had been in a repair shop for 9+ months :o

SO gist of this, two cameras is going to be an issue. Three or four is exponentially better. Best amount is 5 since it allows each group of 4 or 5 to use a Camera each class period and then edit. That said if you only have (2) you can "alternate" editing and filming periods :)

Alright ya'll, here's my situation. I'm planning on teaching a small homeschool (yes, homeschoolers take outside classes) highschool video production class this coming fall. Obviously, I have no where near megabucks to spend on this class since I will be funding it myself. Right now I'm purchasing, for myself, a DVX100B which I was planning on letting the kids use on their group project since I plan on being present whenever they are using it. So my question is, what other equipment do you think I ABSOLUTELY need. I should be able to also let them have a basic lighting kit & synhauser shotgun mic. Also do you think it would be practical to have all the students signing up for the class bring their own MiniDV camera? It would certainly make it easier to assign projects if they each brought their own cameras. If any of you also have some general advice you'd like to thrown in on running a class like this that would be great too. Thanks for the help.
