$$$ High Rollers: hold onto your SxS cards

I see. All I know is I can't with my Hoodman RAW card/adapter. I have not lost footage with that setup, but I have had to restore media. It just seems a little sketchy to use the SD. I feel confident with my SxS cards. I am pissed that they are scamming us with the cost though.

have you tried a Sandisk Extreme Class 10 card with your Hoodman? these class 10 cards are the best SDHC cards on the market. ................ok, they're the best i've tested/worked with.

Michael I've already invested in SxS cards, so I just don't bother with the SD stuff unless I have used up my SxS time.

Right now I have 56 gigs of SxS ( one 32 gigger, and three 8 giggers). Still not enough for a 2 camera shoot of a 3 hour concert, but enough to work with for most everything else I do. Otherwise all roads lead to NnoFlash, not only for extended time, but better bit rates & 4:2:2. But 3 grand is a hard hard price to pay PLUS the CF cards and cables and whatnot. I need some big-tit job that pays well with minimal work so's I can get some extra scratch fast! Don't we all...

To clarify, this was 720p60, not 720p24 overcranked to 60.

To my knowledge, 720p60 should not be an issue.

60fps (720p60) is the same as overcranking no matter how you look at it. If a card can't handle 720p24 or 720p30 overcranked, it won't handle 720p60. "Overcranked" is just increasing the fps up to 60fps.

I thought overcranking raised the bitrate significantly and 720p60 was essentially the same amount of data as 1080i/p.

Everything you do is 35kbps on an EX1 unless you switch to the lower settings for HDV-like video.

Overcranking can only happen in 720 on the EX1/3. It makes a 60fps file that plays at 30fps so it plays slow. A 60fps recording is the same thing, only it plays at 60fps in a 60fps timeline. 60fos has audio where the overcranked stuff doesn't.

Chadfish,

I am not a big overcranker, but I respectfully think that this is incorrect. To my understanding, the bitrates can go significantly higher when in overcrank mode. This is why every SD card failed before the latest firmware when trying to overcrank. The USB buffer was just not setup to handle the dataflow.

720p60 is a native mode of the camera and is not anymore taxing than 1080p30 from a dataflow point of view.

We need some others to chime in here. To have 1080p60, there would need to be a world standard update and that is not ready yet. I don't think the camera makers would put in a recording method that is not accepted by any form of media delivery. (outside of 1080p30!)

Yes I admit I don't know how 720p60 is different from 720p30 overcranked to 60fps. I always assumed it took the same amount of kpps to make either happen.

I have a Hoodman adapter already. But I do video professionally. There have been too many people frantically posting on forums when their adapter card has some error and they can't retrieve the footage. I can't afford to risk that with a clients work. Right now my Hoodman is the last card in line for emergency use only.

If you wait for the green light - 2980 clips later - 0 failures on MXM cards
