High contrast settings & tweaks

Howdy campers, I'm curious what other DVX users are doing to handle high contrast lighting situations. I'd like to max out the cameras ability to handle these difficult situations. For example, your shooting an interior shot with sunlight coming through a window where you either get a totally blown out shot where the window is and a properly exposed foreground subject or a nice shot of the outside but the foreground subject is a shadow. Another example would be an exterior shot where sun is on a house but you can't make out what's in the shadows under the porch.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that I've already taken into account to shoot around the offending bright light source and that sort of thing. What I'm looking for are settings, shutter tweaks etc. that can optimize the dynamic range of the DVX.

OK, let the games begin....

Use the ND filters built in to the cam. They are at specific settings, so if its too much or too little you can by a filter for in between that attches to the lense.
