Hidden Messages - Women's butts in TV commercials

They've done studies of magazine ads where they give men and women a magazine to thumb through. They use hardware and software to track both eye movement and duration to see exactly how long the subjects looked at the ads and exactly where they were looking. Both men and women looked at ads with attractive women in them longer than ads with attractive men, and the women looked at the ads with attractive women in them even longer than the men did.
Make if it what you will but putting attractive women in advertisements works even more on women than on men.
I was going to say this but saw you already did. Yes indeed. Females constantly check out the parts as well.
I know lots of females and don't have time to get into the psychology of it but it works on both sexes with tremendous success

I just mean that it's her choice. She's the one that has to feel comfortable with it.

Right on. While producing a national campaign for Nestlé, the 20-something female lead actress I had hired for the :30 diet-product commercial was asked by the director (unrehearsed and not in the storyboards) to start the action by zipping up the fly on her form-fitting jeans. It was a surprise direction just before "action". The set was lit and the action had been rehearsed (without mentioning the "new" opening). She refused (very politely) - an extremely principled decision considering that this was her first national commercial. She went on to become a successful actress in TV and films. It gives me hope.

i keep hearing/reading that women dress for other women more than they do for men. im guessing the thing about looking at attractive women in ads is somehow related? i.e its the viewers comparing themselves to the models? for what insane self-destructive reasons who knows.

The Research Department labels it "aspirational branding." I personally think it's just a way to sell the idea to the client. When the client says, "We want real people in our spots; people the audience can relate to!", the agency throws back the word "aspirational."

"I know lots of females" lol

ah...like "this is what i could aspire to look like?"

Exactly - or, at least, that's the theory:
If I drink a Coke, my girfriend will look like that.
If I drink Dos Equis, I'll be mature and hip.

"When I'm watching my TV
And that man comes on to tell me
How white my shirts can be
Well he can't be a man cause he doesn't smoke
The same cigarettes as me."
-The Rolling Stones

It's not that complicated. People like pretty people. They do better in job interviews, they get higher paying jobs and advance faster. This is basic animal instinct stuff, not learned societal norms.

I remember taking my kids (age 2 & 4 at the time) to a children's museum a few times. We went to a storytime with a couple dozen other kids, up to maybe age 5 or 6. Teachers in training from the local college ran the place and they'd all sit together on the carpet for stories. When most of the young women would read the stories the kids would listen about as well as one might expect for the 10 minutes it would take. But when this one very attractive young lady would read all the kids (male & female) would keep inching closer and closer to her, to the point that a couple times each story she would have to stop and ask them to scoot back. They were all starting to push into one another. This happened every time and seeing it myself I can tell you that she did nothing different from the other readers, other than that she was very pretty.

We're all just a couple of chromosomes away from all the rest of the creatures on the planet.

THAT sounds like the way society works. I mean, I'm 5'2, bald, glasses, look like Paul Simon, so obviously I'm among the sexy elite, but I feel bad for the rest of you who genetics left in the dust. It's just the way it is. Don't hate the player; hate the game.

I for one change the channel if no backsides are present in the first 5 seconds of an ad.
Even a car ad.
;)

actually I don't watch tv but if I did the above would apply dag nabbit!

It has been my experience that the difference between aspirational backsides and actual ones has grown beyond recognition in America.
For this reason, I now prefer European ones.
