We have all seen the Vhs-Hi8 adapter where the Hi-8 tape gets inserted into this dummy vhs tape so Hi-8 tapes can be played in vhs players. I was wondering if there is such a device where a mini dv tape goes into a Hi-8 dummy tape adapter so I can play mini dv tapes in a Hi-8 player?[font=&quot]

Hmmm... first of all, I think you're talking about adapters that let one play VHS-C tapes in VHS players... Hi-8 is a completely different format that I am pretty sure is not compatible that way...

Now, Hi8 is analog while MiniDV is digital... so I don't think that adapter would work either. Assuming you meant "Digital8" and "Digital8 player" in your last sentence... I still doubt that would work. Tape width and speed are almost certainly different, not to mention the details of how the tapes are actually written.

VHS-C is exactly the same tape and format as VHS, in a smaller (and lower-capacity) case. All these other things are different tape formats, so pretty unlikely...

This won't help you at all, but you can get an adapter to fit a minidv tape into a dvcpro deck.
That's about it.

Hi8 does not fit in an adapter for VHS. That was VHS-C. Tape width, track pitch, everything is different. Same for DV and Hi8, everything is different, including the encoding of the information. Because you have a plastic box with some long ribbon inside doesn't mean that you can stick it in anywhere. As yellowdog said, you can play a mini DV (or a full size DV for that matter, or a DVCAM) in any of the DVCPRO machines, including the HD ones.
