I am getting close to getting either this or one of the big three 24p HD cameras that are now out. Does anyone have any finished projects in 24p that are not compressed way down to web resolution? Meaning actually 720p clips or reels o short films anywhere for me to download? 1080 would be nice too. I walked into B&H talking about buying the HVX100a and the sales guys were really trying to stear me away from it saying it was great for it's time but it's resolution is too soft now and the Sony EX1 or 3 or the Canon XLH1 was the way to go.

A bit upsetting when I was just about ready to get the HVX so now I have to do more homework.

The HVX has its own native format, and you will need software to decode it so you can view the video in its native format.

Typically dealers steer you away from something when there are no rebates for them or if another product has a better profit margin.

If you are interested in an HVX, the best thing to do is use the dealer locator on the panasonic website, and find a dealer that is interested in doing a full demo for you. I cant stress enough haveing someone who knows the camera show you what it can do.

Ask them to connect the camera up to a HD monitor so you can see the image.

There is no way to upload a uncompressed hd clip to the internet to watch online. The file needs to be compressed. Consider that a 2 hour 1080p HD film on Blu-ray is 27 gig in file size. Yet on an HVX the same amount of file space will only hold about 35 min of uncompressed 1080p video . This is because even video on Blu-ray is compressed.

Yes I'm aware of all the compression - what I really meant was full resolution clips at 720p or 1080 so I could get a better idea of what the full resolutin actually looks like until i can get a dealer demo. I was able to find only about 2 or 3 h.264 720p hvx200a clips in quicktime format and one wma. Not very interesting footage though.

Check out www.vimeo.com. Although compressed, most of the HD content looks really, really good. It will at least give you a good idea of what the resolution looks like.

Not "entirely" true. There are no sites that accept raw DVCPRO HD footage to view online, true, but somebody could very easily upload a raw clip for one to download and throw into your NLE. If you were interested in something like that, I could probably accomodate a few seconds. You'd better have one hell of an internet connection though...

I just shot a few seconds in my back yard. Im running it through vegas now to render 1080p uncompressed AVI. Should be done in 20 min.
If you have a place to upload let me know

I just rendered a 3 second clip and it was 2.5 gigs.

The MXF files are only 330 megs. Do you want me to upload the mxf files somewhere?

I really cant see uploading the rendered file at 2.5 gig
I tried to play it and my computer froze because the file was bigger than the amount of ram that is in my laptop.

Hi sorry it took me a while.

Vimeo quality seems screwy to me can you maybe jus make it into a quicktime h.264 file?

I can give you a ftp account to upload it to.
