Holy crowly did you see the bench marks on the Octette Macpro!!

My god I hope I am able to functionally do this with my MACPRO without buying a whole new machine.

Imagine if it were 3.0 cpus.

The benchmarks will probally go up if Leopard is optimized for Octette type process threads.

How do I tell FCP to render in the background while I am working?

But it is impressive. I bet it flies even better on a system board built for it specifically.

Auto-Render-
In FCP 5.1 (I forget what the earlier versions had) you go to User Prefs, General tab, Auto Render at the bottom right.

You really need to get these two books and just do them, as there's TONS of stuff you can do without plug-ins in FCP, once you properly learn the app.

Yeah, I agree these books are great I have both. I really recommend lynda.com they have very very good video tutorials. even for vegas
