Hey Everybody -

I'm new here and this is my first post.

I've submitted my Feature to quite a few festivals and I still haven't been rejected from any (I haven't been accepted either...)

Anyway, here is a link to my trailer:

www.thecoatroom.com/thecoatroom.wmv

It's a movie about a coat room in an art museum during a fictitious Marcel Duchamp exhibition. It was shot with the DVX100A.

Let me know what you guys think

Hi JFG,

And welcome to the forum!

Looks like the movie has potential. The trailer, in my opinion, needs work though.

Too long, if you cut that puppy down to half it would be much more effective. The music over the whole thing I found distracting. There are some interesting shots and sequences, I think it needs another strong pass to try and get it down to the minute+ runtime and it could be much tighter and more entertiaining.

my 2 cent!

Yeah, too long.... But looks funny!

That "I hate" guy was awesome! I totally laughed when I saw him with that dialogue

Well, no lie, it has my attention. Thought it was a nice hook. Are you doing any post work, color correction before release?

thanks for all the comments -

By the time I got to post financial considerations forced me to decide between audio mixing and color correction. I went with an audio mix...

Looks interesting, but I think it needs to be shortened. I'd take the funniest I hate dialogue bits, and just tighten the screws. Your trailer's currently 2:34. Try and cut it down to a minute, and then 30 seconds. I don't think you'll lose anything from doing that. Good work.

What he said! I like it though it is too long for a trailer. I didn't like the music at first but it worked on me.

Brilliant. Far from being too long, the trailer whet my appetite for more. Read the synopsis and would love to see another clip. And how about posting some of your short films here as well?

Good luck with the festival circuit.

Kill the music when you get to your "The Coatroom" graphic at the end

I dunno I liked the dialogue and stuff... Isaac_Brody said shorten it and I agree.

Who made the music? You?

It has great potential.. As already mentioned, shorten the trailer, make what you have right now more compact. Best of luck with it!

I thought it was great but I agree with everyone else when they say to make it shorter. In my opinion trailers should only be at MAX 2 min. Other than that everything was sweet! Keep up the great work man!

Looks interesting...

I agree with everyone that it should be tightened up and shortened. It felt to me like it sort of meandered in the last third, and these moments should be your strongest... it started out great... but it just sort of lost momentum.

One suggestion I'd make is to try taking the first half, where the guy is doing the hate speech, up to the other guy doing his thing under that ART composition thing, and put that at the end, and put some short scenes at the beginning that lead into it, just use the coat room convo at the beginning, don't keep coming back to it, I think it slows things down, put that at the beginning, then transition into the big montage with the HATE speech and the nice moments you have intercutting there to the music.... crescendo and bring in the title, and you've got a trailer. Just an idea.

Welcome, and keep us updated.

Shorter would be good, youve enough material there for two trailers and a pup. I didn't mind the long version though as it was intesting. I liked the performance of the guy who hates everything....Funny stuff.

Visually pretty good but the audio sounds poor IMHO... I think mainly it is the mix of the song, which is too loud... also, in a trailer you need to use more than one song.... there needs to be mood shifts, etc. I think that is why people are thinking it is too long, change the music around, it wont seem as long...

ash =o)

Thanks everybody for the awesome feedback!

This forum is great. I have posted on some other messgae boards and haven't got as many quality responses as I've gotten from this crowd.

The music was done by a number of awesomely talented musicians (patrick Carrico of the Blazing Cherries and Desi Policky). Check out some of the other tracks on the soundtrack:

I will post a link to some of my short films soon if anybody is interested...

Cheers all
