Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

I've purchased a few products from Cavision in Canada a few times, and it's a real pain in the posterior as they don't have an online ordering system. Faxing and phoning an order is so, well 90's ;)

It would be beyond cool if EVS carried a few of the product lines they have. I believe BH carries the Matte Box, but I believe that's about it. You guys could have a monopoly on those products as I couldn't find a single online ordering system from anywhere else..

Specifically, It would be great if EVS carried the sound equipment, matte boxes, follow focus, filters, etc.

Anyway, I know these products aren't designed for serious production, but you could probably move alot of that stuff to indie filmmakers.

"I know these products aren't designed for serious production"....LOL

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

hehe, that was a silly thing to say..  Let me clarify:

What I meant to say is...  They aren't designed for - let's say a news team that might be using them every day and throwing them around in the back of the truck.  The Cavision windshield is made of hard plastic so it could break with rough use, but an indie filmmaker that only shoots a few productions a year, could afford it, and would probably treat it with kid gloves.

I think it's good enough quality for alot of stuff, but if I had an unlimited budget then of course I would get the best money could buy, like a Mini35!!   ;)

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Hi there mickeloaf, I understand what you're saying about the "plastic", but....

This is the info for a Rycote Windshield Kit # 7...please note the "plastic" construction...

This is a $670 US item.

If you're looking for a "metal" construction windshield, i'm sure you'll find the price significantly higher.

The Rycote Windshield Kit # 7 is a complete modular microphone windshield system including the Rycote modular suspension mount, windjammer, windshield and necessary extensions. The windshield provides optimum protection against wind and the kit is a useful solution for those who do not already own a suspension mount or windjammer.

The Rycote Windshield kits are available in up to 8 different configurations and are identified as systems 1 through 8. Each custom configured system will include the correct combination of suspension mount, windjammer, windshield and extensions (whenever necessary) to accommodate the size requirements for use with your specific microphone. For information regarding which configuration is necessary for use with your particular microphone, please click here for a complete Rycote configuration chart.

Key Features

•  Complete Kit Solution
The Windscreen Kit includes all that is needed for complete set up and use. Each kit includes the necessary modular suspension mount, windshield, windjammer and extensions. Click here for a complete Rycote measurement chart containing information regarding size requirements for your specific microphone.

•  Hytrel Plastic Construction
A material called Hytrel is used on the end rings and shield. The material aids in creating the "dead" space necessary for quiet operation.

•  Interlocking Ends
Modular locking end rings provide quick and easy replacement of dented ends and modular extensions.

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Hi Mike, I think I asked Cody about dealing for Cavision a while back, but I never followed through to find if we can do that. They are very popular, and I would like to carry their product. I will send myself an email to remind myself tomorrow :) to ask Cody, and perhaps call Cavision and see what's up. I fully agree about indie filmmakers using their gear a couple time a year, needing to spend less on the gear.

On that note, I also wanted to let you know that I am the rental manager at EVS, and we don't charge for shipping dates. So if you want to rent some audio gear, we only charge for the usage date + shipping cost, and the shipping dates are free. If we ship Fedex on Monday, and you get your gear on Thursday, you pay for thursday, and ship back to us on Friday. You don't have to pay for the whole week of shipping dates. That makes things easier for indie filmmaker in other states, who turn out to be our biggest outofstate rental customers. ;)

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Hey there, just wanted to add my Cavision request to this post. I'm going to be buying a camera and some gear from Rush next week and am set on the Cavision matte box, etc. I don't know how quickly EVS might be able to get a deal going, if any, but count me in if they do.

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Ditto here as well Rush,

I'm looking to buy their follow focus system in the first quarter of 2005. Ordering from Cavision is cumbersome, and there is a susprisingly small amount of dealers (if any) here in the US. I'd prefer to order from you.

Keep us posted.

Roger

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Excellent, the momentum is building.

Let me add to my wishlist the following Cavision products: Follow Focus, 4x4 filters, windjammer, suspension, lens hood, etc. And since these products will cause me to buy at EVS more often, I might as well just put some other cool EVS products in the basket, like a real dv deck.. I'm saving that last credit card for you Rush!! ;D

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

No rent fees for time in transit?!! I'll buy.. er, rent that!

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

I have Lew, our purchasing manager, on the job. He is downloading a form for dealership from their site. ;) In a few minutes we will all be leaving to go home for Christmas Eve, so most prolly, he will actually talk to them on Monday. Merry Christmas all, and as Oz would say: Mele Kalikimaka! ;D

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Hey Rush, your Hawaiian is perfect! ;D You can always tell how well a company treats their customers when they take time to learn the local language.

Looks like EVS is shaping up to be the one stop source for mattebox and film style accessories: Chrosziel, Cinetactics, Century Optics, even Cinetech; and now possibly Cavision. Am I missing any others? Formatt, Vision?

I understand Chrosziel will be coming out with a rods based system for the Canon XL2 soon. Any idea when the full Canon XL2 Chrosziel mattebox kits (with rods) come in at EVS, Rush?

Mahalo (Thanks) & Mele Kalikimaka (Merry Christmas!)

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Aloha Oz!

I will call Chrosziel tomorrow and see when the will come out with it. ;)

As of now we only have the Cinetech rod system for the XL2, but you can attach the 41153PK Chrosziel to that.

The 5 C's of matteboxes. :D

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

what about Formatt matte boxes? I'm intrested in purchasing this item. ;D

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Hi Oz, Chrosziel makes a LWS for the XL2, it is called the 401-44, but it is not available again until mid January. :)

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Hey Rush any word on what the process will be...time-frame, etc. for trying to hook EVS up with Cavision? I need to order this week or next and I have no idea how long the process of becoming a vendor can take.

Thanks,

Jason

PS-I'm still putting together my final equipment order for you. should be this week.

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

I think our dude at cavision quit or is on vacation as he hasnt responded.. They do make good stuff, I use thier 4x4 mattebox everday.. the Chroz is one of the only onese that tops it.

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

HI Jason, I can't be for certain. It can sometimes be a long process, and sometimes happens very fast :). My purchaser already filled out the application for becoming a vendor and faxed it in, but I think because this is a holiday week, most companies are operating on skeleton crews. I will let you know when that happens ;). By all means, please don't hold up your shoot for us, though, get what you need from them, and hopefully we will be there for your future Cavision needs. Send me the list of whatever else you need though. ;D

Re: Hey Rush, any chance EVS could carry...

Thanks Rush. I'll talk to you on Thursday.

Jarred...I would love the Chroz, but that's going to have to be phase 2 of my equipment purchases...maybe, even phase 3. :) It's good to hear that somebody with such knowledge and respect digs the Cavision gear. Thanks.
