Hey Monday "Homecoming" music video

wow man, fantastic work!

This is mega impressive. I would love to know a bit more about the lighting for the main singer? She had that very soft glow to her skin. Do you have any lighting setup pictures or could you perhaps draw a diagram?

Also what was your color grading? Is there a large difference in the skin tones prior and after the grading?

cheers.

My main thought is, wow, that girl's cute! haha

Who do they target this music for? Is it like punk rock, emo rock or what? To me it's like I imagine 12 to 17 year olds loving this music, haha.

The video is nicely done, though, it fits the theme I think and there's plenty of the lead girl, which is important, she's better than any production design you can put up ;)

i had a few questions if you don't mind answering ;)

Yeah we used the LETUS ULTIMATE with various ZEISS/Nikon primes. Can't remember which. Yeah video seems to be doing well on myspace (over 300,000 plays in 3 days)!

cool video, it really looks good, I thought it was on film until the subject jumped out of focus.. then i was like.. its gotta be an adapter. great work, i'm think gonna steal your DP for my next video :)

Papa-I'm pretty sure the lighting is done with kino flos. I saw a pic of it somewhere.

Yah, wow, tons of views now. Well that's awesome. I guess that pop / emo / rock really hits the spot. I think the video is quite a bit better than the band or the song, haha. As cute as the girl is, to jump around during a performance of a song like that, haha, it's pretty silly. It's like an Avril Lavigne wannabe or something I guess. At least you made them a good video!

It must be so frustrating being a musician. I've worked with so many great bands who haven't gotten signed, and to look at the bands that do get signed, it must be infuriating, haha. At least with filmmakers, if I see a terrible movie even, I don't just assume the director is a hack or that I could do better, I just assume probably things went wrong at some point during production. It's easy to dismiss. But if you're a band and you know your music is much better than 95% of what's played on the radio, it must be very frustrating. haha

I did have just ONE question, though, and whether there was discussion about this / why this artistic choice was made. Near the end of the song, at like 3:30, the lead singer is just standing around, not even singing, while her voice is blaring. I found that distracting. If we're on the story it's one thing not to see her singing, but to be on the performance with her words but no lips moving, and she looks bored, almost like she's just waiting for the music to start or something. It took me out of the video. So I was wondering why that decision was made?

Yeah I would love to see a better quality version one day, it's always a shame when you know the footage was really well shot but you have to see it just on MySpace. I also think the quality varies a bit, like I think my last music video looks pretty good on MySpace, not great, but pretty good. Whereas the one before it didn't look as good on MySpace, maybe because it has a lot more wide shots that you need to see on a bigger screen / viewer, etc. At least it beats YouTube.
