I'm with rob! I sat out the whole AF100 craze, and now I'm waiting for this one! Hoping to hear more (new) news soon!

that wireless thing looks groovy... but i can find anything there aside from the banner...?

I wonder if we could get a "sneak peak" simply by watching HPX370 footage, considering this is more or less a handheld form factor of that.

Also going to be mighty hard not to be one of the first to figure out its kinks. Still using my HVX regularly, but some employers are starting to turn up their noses at it.

I'm looking forward to buying and shooting with this camera as well.I already have 2 HVX's and these will be my back ups and extra angle cameras.I love my HVX's but feel they were a tad short of perfect like 8 bit instead of 10, no full raster sensor, fairly poor low light capabilities. The only thing that I can see the HVX being better at than the 250 would be no rolling shutter problems. So if I need to do a quick whip pan or some action scene I can always shoot it on the HVX.

HD SDI and HDMI out on the 250 is icing on the cake and 10 bit intra makes it way above Sony's EX1 and 3. Theres also the option of shooting uncompressed into an external recorder.

If the AF100 had a recorder equal to the HPX250.I may have considered that instaed.

i'm hoping that since we are now 30 days since my original post, that perhaps the good folks at panasonic might have leaked some additional info.

anyone with additional knowledge?

any info from panasonic about whether their factories are back online?

I'm thinking about switching from my HPX171 to the HPX250 but I am a little bit afraid of CMOS. I'm interested wether it is the HPX370 in a smaller version or not. Will there be anything new or different in the 250? Ok 21x zoom is really nice.

I was wondering the same thing. Will the imager and codec be the same as the hpx370? If so, that would help some of us plan ahead if this is the right camera for us. I'm also wondering how 1/3 inch with 10 bit will stack up against the 1/2 inch with 8 bit of the ex1? Anyone have experience comparing ex1 footage with hpx370?

I'm really looking forward to more info on the HPX250 as well. I'm about to start shooting a doc and have been thinking about the AF100, but since I'll be hand-held most of the time, I'm a bit worried about the lack of a good zoom and being able to keep focus. The one thing that worries me about the 250 is its low light performance. I will often be shooting indoors without the ability to add light. Does anyone have experience with how the HPX370 handles low light. I know the EX1 handles low light pretty well, will the HPX250 be comparable, better...? If I were using the AF100, I'd probably shoot at f4 or a little higher to make it a bit easier to keep focus, but at that point I wonder if I'd have any advantages over the HPX250. Any advice would be welcomed!

Sounds like the HPX250 would be a better choice than the AF100 for what you're doing, especially if you're in low light situations. The AF100 is not really meant to be a run-and-gun event type camera as it was designed in response to DSLR shooters who like the shallow depth of field film-look that most video cameras can't replicate. Handheld at F4 with the AF100 is going to be a challenge to keep in focus. Also keep in mind that the AF doesn't have a servo zoom option, so all your zooms will have to be done manually. I've got the 14-140 zoom on my AF and its really stiff and hard to make a smooth push-in or pull-out. The 250 on the other hand has got that nice servoed zoom lens that will let you touch up your framing without jerking the zoom. Remember the 250 will have the same sensor as the HPX370, so it may be worth your while to stop be a rental house or Panasonic vendor and play with both the 370 and the AF100 in the low light conditions you might find yourself recording in.
