HERITAGE - Geoff Reisner

...I was thinking it was a schizophrenia issue that ran in his family.
That's an interesting way to look at it, I never thought about it in that manner but upon hearing it, I could see it. That would have been a cool direction for the story.

BTW, you did an excellent job in both 'Where Silence Falls' and 'Semele'!

great style and execution. Great writing and cinematography. This is definitely one of my favorites so far.(I'm about 1/3 way through viewing)

Although it was very event minimal the film really held my interest.
The final line gave me chills. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

good work...if I think of more I'll say it.

There is so much I like about this one Geoff. The cinematography, the score , the lead and the writing are all excellent.

I would like to have seen this short shot and presented 2.35:1.

Thanks Ricky & FatBird19! 'The Artist' is one of my favorites!

Christopher, I wish I had done 2.35 as well; I've been working on a system that'll allow for me to frame my shots with that intention but it wasn't ready yet.

Mark, thanks for the kind words! Katrina is one of my 'wow' films!

Geoff! I LOVE YOUR FILM!!!!!!!

Wow! Such wonderful cinematography! The visuals are just great!

All around, a well crafted film! The acting, the writing, the camera work, the score, the editing.

I am going to watch this again and find something wrong with it!

WOW! Great job.

I am working on an adaptation of Young Goodman Brown, and man, this thing just rang one many of the same notes in a modern fashion. After I watch again, I'll try to go into more detail.

Thanks Ted!! I've been meaning to post on TTN but work has been so busy this weekend. I'll be over there soon! I was very impressed!

Review of Heritage

Thank you for making it a pain in the ass to pick a number 1 film :)
If you would have just slipped up somewhere, I could have said A-HA ... but noooooo you had to keep me riveted till the end, with your kick ass cinematography and your lead actor... thanks ALOT!

Seriously this is on the top of my list great work:)

this movie gave me goosebumps. If it were in Horror fest it woulda won too. The conflict is psychological. Which is VERY difficult to pulll off.

Geoff,

I really liked this one. This is in my top five for sure. I really liked how the back ground story of the father unraveled before us while we got disjointed glimpses of what was to come (great use of editing). Your actor did very well, he did an excellent job, the actress was pretty good.

Your cinematography was amazing. I loved the look of almost every shot. I'm jealous of how "movie" like this one felt to me.

Good job man and by the way I didn't notice where you took out the thing above his head.

Hi Geoff, I've seen your movie twice. It's getting a lot of attention, good to see that!
I liked Heritage, the tension and mood build up nicely, the main actor is doing a terrific job for that. The story however is not hitting me like it does with other viewers, although it's rather interesting. The editing is perfect, the shots look good. The music sounded a bit 'cheap' here and there, it adds to the tension but the instrumentation itself would not have been my choice. Anyway, hope the best for your film in the festival!

yeah, I don't know what to add but WOW again. I think the most striking thing about it is the V/O. It was so intimate and added so much, as where many people think V/O is to be avoided. You showed a good example of what it can bring.

Likewise this, like your horrorfest entry, showed how much you get through to the audience though the story alone. I remember loving how you used sound effects and the woman's acting in the horrorfest entry when she is in the apt and the zombie was at the door.

Anyway, if you've not read Young Goodman Brown, you have to. You so skillfully and magically weave the themes of that into this as if you'd written a thesis on it.

Good! :)

Thanks Jeremy! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to watch your film yet! In fact I've only been able to watch a handful of films. I'm swamped with a deadline right now on another video project for a partner of mine, I'm bummed...I want to watch more films!

Thanks for checking the film out Peter! I agree with you on the music bit in some ways. My composer only had time to do the percussion part and then I quickly threw in the underlying, more synth like music myself at the last minute. I already called him and told him that while I love the percussion, he'll have to redo my parts of the music, which can definitely be improved.

Yes, I forgot to bring this up. I don't know what it was about his voice, but this was one of the best voice overs I've ever head.

I liked this one. Cinematography was good, and it was well edited. Congrats! I like the unusual storyline the best, which makes this piece stand out. Although I think that the story could be developed more which would make it even stronger. If you were to develop the story, I would want to see the father’s “gift” developed- play that up more so that the revelation at the end has a stronger punch to it. Again, good job, I liked this film.

REALLY enjoyed watching this. Great feel for lighting in the bedroom shots. You used Chicago very well and gave your film a big feel in just the right places. Lead actor is very good - VO work is right in line w/ the tone you were going for, I think. Maybe the ending needs something more...a punch or final shot (something very quietly menacing)?
More later b/c I want to watch again without distractions...definitely one of my favorites so far.
