Hot video, hot track. Congrats, man. Thank for sharing a bit of your technique on shooting this video. I don't think I'd have the guts to put my DVX on a skateboard, but if you're the next Hype Williams, you probably have a few checks coming in the mail ;)
That's I said when I saw his DVX on a bike. Only the big time studios take risk like that because they afford it;they can buy 20 Panavision cameras out of their petty cash account. lol. Anyway Impakstudio is big time now,he can afford to take those risk like Warner Brothers.

Lupe Fiasco Video On Mtv

Well our video for Lupe Fiasco's Chicago skateboard anthem "Kick Push" hit MTV & MTV2 today it is in regular rotation and it will hit MTV'S TRL next week as welll as every hour during MTV2'S HIP HOP WEEK next week i shot it entirely with a 1st generation DVX100, Edited with premere pro 1.5, CC in after effects, Vfx lightwave & after fx.
the label will let me post it on thhe net some time next week but a couple of crappy versions have turned up on youtube.com just do a search for lupe fiasco and it will pop right up.
thanx panasonic for creating such a great camera, next up 2 hvx200's
stay tuned.

The label didnt want to use me but Lupe and his partner did, the label actually wanted to use Hype Williams but Lupe fought the label to use me. he even put up his own money so i could do it !!! so all the risks were mine to take but i knew i had to prove to the client and the especially label that i could kick their million dollar directors ass with my trusty DVX even if i had to mount it on a skateboard or a bicycle and work with a 3 person crew shooting skateboarders in the middle of winter in chicago, in gang run neighborhoods, with no permits and no insurance.

props to you man...very well done. I don't know too much about lupe but from what I heard so far I like his music...its hip hop. I hope he gets heavy rotation and inspires the next generation of artists so we can muscle out these other "rappers". I swear, I never even turn my dial to any hip hop stations these days except for the public stations that pnce in a while play good hip hop.

one question, there is this one shot that looks like the camera was mounted to the front of the skateboard looking back at the skateboard while on a turn. how did you do that?

nevermind, I think i know now, did you have the skater hold on to the bike? its a good shot.

one last question, he keeps mentioning slinky, is that his producer? Def love the beats. more slink type peeps in the hip hop world :).

I have some videos uploaded through YOUTUBE now and I agree that the compression sucks. It looks good after I compress it but it looks awful after I upload it to you tube....Can anyone give me a few sites to check out where the compression is better than You Tube?

Thanks!

wow man, impressive stuff. Not sure how some people pull off such great quality with the camera and other times not so great, but yours looks especially sharp even for compressed.

I liked it!

Quick question about the bke mount.

I want to do something similar with my cam(might not be the DVX!) only with mtn bikers out on a trail...how stable and solid is that set up?

Thanks

bike mount: i used a manfrotto multi link arm with a grip clamp on one end and a quick release plate on the other end, i also added a bungee strap as a safety just incase the arm failed it was pretty sturdy on city streets i wouldnt try really rough roads or trails with it also i took a lot of air out of the tires of my bike to help smooth out the shots NOTE: if you rent a lipstick camera you could mount it all kind a ways using duct tape i did that on a bad boy bill video i worked on several years ago where we mounted 3 cams on a motorcycle

SKATEBOARD SHOT: you were correct i used the above mentioned arm to mount the camera to the skate board. then i had Kiko( the lead skater) skate down the street with me running backwards in front of him to make sure the camera didnt fall at no time did the skater hold on to the bike i was either in front of, behind, or on the side riding the bike.

yes i tracked "skateboarding is not a crime" to Kiko in after fx

Thank you all for your comments and questions more goodies coming soon

sorry to be askin another question but do you have other pictures of the bike mount? I just want some other perspectives because i think your rig may come in handy for a lot of different types of shots.

one last, do you have any pictures of your "chest cam brace"?

thanks a lot man!

This is a dope song and an ill video.

I gotta find some toronto artists to do stuff like this with.

Thanks for posting the video and the pix! wow that arm thing looks really really handy, what is the name of the clamp and arm? I was trying to serach for it on BHphoto but didn't have any luck. I don't knwo what section to look in lol.

Just saw the video on TV, looks real sharp!
Did you capture and edit it 10bit., or does the transfer to beta just make it look that much better?
I know this is a pretty old thread, but would really love to know, since I have a few videos heading that direction, thanks.

nice video, i liked it since i saw it on MTV. Question, is lupe even good at skating? I was always curious about that. Im pretty good myself, i wanna know if he can rip, cause in his video he didnt..
