"Her Summer" Clip & Trailer (feature

welHi, I wanted to share a clip from my last feature film, "Her Summer," which I shot this last summer on the DVX100A for a budget of $50. *I posted the trailer a while ago, but it was only in Windows Media format. *Now I have a Quicktime version up too.

CLIP: http://www.blueboxlimited.com/multimedia/hsclip.html * (Quicktime) 18.2MB

TRAILER: http://www.blueboxlimited.com/multimedia/hstrailer.html (Quicktime) 18.6MB

Let me know what you think -- though the clip is very much out of context, so it might not seem completely coherent. *The jist of the story is this: *Based on true events, Officer Ethan Crowe discovers two of his brothers brutally murdered. *He stays on the crime scene the entire night alone, and the next day, he is missing. *Two years later, two friends come across the investigation evidence, and begin to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

I just released the film on DVD if anyone is interested. *It is $10 and comes with several special features, including commentary, interviews, a short film, and more. *For more information, visit http://www.blueboxlimited.com/store.

I think you can order on PayPal with debit, though I am not positive. I'll also take a check -- if you're going to do that, send me an e-mail to sbeck@blueboxlimited.com. Thanks!

Lame. Nice wide angle shots, but come on... Re think it, and re edit it. Looks like the work of a rich college kid with too much time on his hands.

While just from the clips I saw, the story is a little hard to follow, I have to say that your use of camera angles is astounding. And on a $50 dollar budget! Wow! I have to ask, in the clip of the movie, what kind of dolly did you you use? Especially for the part that whips around the guy that reveals the shot of the girl at the door. Awsome! Im DP on a feature being made here in San Francisco, and I replayed that clip a couple times just to see how you created the suspence. Again, job well done.

Hey, PimpDaddyD,
Your criticism sounds more out of jealousy than actual feelings toward his production.

P.S. PimpDaddyD? Uhmm...

The unspoken (until now) rule of thumb on the forum (and life) is this:

If you don't have something constructive to say, keep your big mouth shut.

I loved the shot in the dark walking to the barn, very very good shot !!!!

With what light did you create that effect ?

Thank you very much for the compliments & support. I really appreciate it.

We use a PVC dolly. The parts came from http://www.longvalleyequip.com, and everything cost about $400, minus assembling time.

As far as the shot you are referring to, we had the dolly track diagonally placed towards the actor, and he was standing in front of it. I think we had about 10 feet of track. We just pushed in and panned over to get that effect.

That was done with a pair of hardware utility lights, mimicking an outdoor spotlight. Nothing more, nothing less.

And Steven -- thanks for your order!! The DVD will be shipped to you today. I've broken even on the budget so far, but our premiere at the IMAX Theatre ended up costing $400, so I still have some money to recoup.

Thanks again for the feedback, and keep it coming if you feel inclined!

How was it projected? How did it look on such a massive screen?

It looked pretty good actually!  We used a huge video projector set up in the projection booth, and the image only took up about 1/6th or 1/8th of the massive screen.  However, it was still a huge image.  Of course, DV can't hold up to 70mm, but I was still impressed by the resolution and picture quality.

The main reason we chose the IMAX for our premiere is because of the theatre's sound capabilities.  "Her Summer" is very sound intensive, and it certainly was a cool experience.  It was amazing to hear the bass in the film through the IMAX's subwoofer....it was very, very low.

Re: "Her Summer" Clip & Trailer (fea

That's great! - It cost you $400 to use the theater for the night and rent a projector? That seems pretty reasonable.

I like it. And your business skills are cool too. Just keep selling and filming. I'll be buying my copy.

Re: "Her Summer" Clip & Trailer (fea

Some of the shots looked great, but some of those interiors didn't have the best lighting. Also on the trailer i didnt like the voice over. The idea and diag is good but the way the actor said the lines was very flat and just didnt sound right. It bugged me more each time i watched. Just my opinoin
