Henry Thomas' audition for E.T.

It must be rough on actors who spend decades honing their craft, to then see 10 year olds deliver Oscar worthy performances.

Yea I've seen this before. Wish Henry Thomas did more good movies after ET. He's done some stuff but not much. It must be tough being apart of such a phenomenon because for the most part unless you do something absolutely amazing later in life, he'll die someday and still just be (to others at least) "the kid from ET."

Great audition...pure talent.

I wish he had a better agent. Kid coulda gone the distance. How come kid-Marlon Brandos never segue to adult greats? Even Haley Joel Osmet fell victim to this. Weird.

I think Henry Thomas did alright, all things considered. Just checking his imdb page he's worked steadily since, with a few strong performances like Legends of the Fall along the way...Probably the most successful child prodigy to A-list adult actor transition has been Christian Bale.

I just watched the blu-ray for this and I have to say its one of the most flawless transfers I've seen of a film from this era. And yes it's the original version, warts and all. Just perfect.

Jodi Foster also comes to mind. (Although not as successful of course)

Hmmm....depends on how one looks at success:

Foster -more critically acclaimed flicks = success

Bale - more blockbuster flicks = success

It's a win win in my book :)

But yeah...Henry Thomas has had a decent career.

my eyes went all crazy wanting to cry...and when someone makes my eyes go all fuzzy, that for me is enough to consider it great acting (I can cry a lot with some movies...even if they are comedies...and that's when I love a film). damn I love Steven's last sentence.

And apparently that last sentence was the real deal. When he saw Thomas spontaneously bring himself to tears an yet still remain in control enough to stay on point and in character, he knew he could work with the boy.
