No. The effect is cool, but you basically hold on a master shot and track every fifteen or twenty seconds. It doesn't hold my attention throughout. I think if it had mixed closeups, medium shots, dolly and interesting framing choices it would have been more effective and interesting.

.02 cents.

Hey Nicholas,
Actually I thought the look and the effects were excellent. Great job with that.

My only advice would be to have more shots. I felt the need to see some close-ups and much more movement throughout.

Aside from that thumbs up. Keep em' coming.

cheers guys yep your right i think close ups and cutaways would have worked but this was a bit of an experiment. 1) to see if a constant master with no cuts COULD hold your attention (every music video you see has fast cuts on the beat MTV style very expected) trying to break from convention. Some you win some you lose.
2) Using cuts i think wouldnt have sold the composited environment as much.
Live and learn on to the next one eh

There's an Incubus music video similar to this. Can't remember the name of it, but try and check them out. It should give you some ideas.

I thought this was great.

One suggestion though, I would have kept a steady dolly to the right with the background constantly shifting (changing colors and images) and different members of the band always coming into view.

I think that would have held interest a little more.

Still, I loved the overall look of the video.

Great job,

Chris

All done entirely in after effects and rendered on a g4 imca would you believe (i would NOT recommend this haha) this was before i got my dual g5 2.7ghz with twin 23 inch apple displays and 500gb graid (TASTY). Render time on the imac came in at 4 days i was crapping myself hopeing i wouldnt get a power cut at the zero hour (there seems to be a steady stream of them were i live).

NO no no; you da man.

You never had the balls to post something ? It's not like base-jumping ya know.

I second what everyone else has said. Closer shots, cut-aways and constant band-members in and out of shot would be great.

Love the concept; it works. Its original which is the best part. (And cool song too!)

Cheers John thanks for the reply. I know i know figure of speech.
Might i ad this was shot on ZERO budget and when i say ZERO i mean ZERO. A local college let us use one of there rooms in the evening for greenscreen work the band helped out lugging stuff. And the catering was provided via some stolen sandwiches from another event in the same college.

Great job! More variation in the visual effects elements would have been better, though. Maybe change the "season" a few times or something. Just a thought.

And good work on making the most of a no-budget situation. Get in, grab the sandwiches, and get out. I think there's a life lesson in there somewhere...

Its difficult to make out but the particles falling down are suits from cards and obviously the cards are rotating around the lead. Its supposed to be set in a desert in mexico. Songs about a guy that goes down to mexico to do a drug deal and ends up in a casino to disguise the reason hes there. Hence man in a suit (as in cards and oufit) TA DA do you see what i did there.

I loved the concept, I'm always a sucker for cool trees!! The concept was good, and I appreciate that you're trying to steer away from an "MTV" look but the pace could be a bit quicker, more shots, CUs, etc. But all in all, very nice. Good work.

K. Gotcha. The particles looked almost like leaves or something. Did notice the playing cards though, but didn't make the connection with the song. Guess I was just watching the pretty colors and not listening to the lyrics too much.

I do really like the song though. Do they have a CD?

Thanks for the feedback guys i might get round to it eventually (ie more cuts etc) but im on to the next project now, its like that old tv series the littlest hobo "gotta keep movin on".
