HELP - XH A1 footage mpeg into FCP

If someone knows how to fix this, i am badly in need of some help.

Basically, a feature was shot over the last 2 years and all of the footage was captured off of an XH A1 into Premiere Pro CS3 on PC. The footage is all Mpeg and now the machine that was being used to edit the feature is having problems loading the project containing over 40 hours of video ( 43 tapes ). Right now, we are opting to give the footage to someone who has the time to edit but both of the people who are volunteering have Macs. Thus, we need to find a way for FCP to open the mpeg footage by either downloading some type of codec that will permit FCP to open the files or convert them into a video type that FCP recognizes.

Out of those two options, what are our best options?

Thanks FCP users.

cool Noel,

with mpeg streamclip, what format would you recommend with it's settings?

how much does it enlarge the file type? As it stands, we currently have approximately 1 TB of footage from the mpeg HDV footage.

ProRes is right about 60 gigs per hour (give or take depending on frame size and fps). I would def go with ProRes as your format because it will be the same fps and frame size as the native footage.
