Re: Help with ugly haze

Yes, you can boost your black using a levels adjustment...that will minimize the haze...

Re: Help with ugly haze

Thanks disjecta. That is so cool to see what you did with the grab.
I did'nt expect that kind of responce. Thanks for taking the time to do that.
Now for the stupid question, Where would I find the levels adjustment? What effects catagory is it under? probobly under "levels" right? I'm not at my computer so I thought I'd ask so I don't get stumped tonight.

I'll give it a shot tonight after work. Any tricks for some awful blue lighting do to a bad white balance? I was tring to run and gun so there is some crappy footage here and there.
I could post it if you would like.

Thanks again for helping me salvage some crappy footage.

Re: Help with ugly haze

Hey, anytime.

I'm not a Vegas user so you might want to ask that question in the Vegas section. Regarding a blue cast, you can simply lower the blue hue in the color correction area of Vegas....again ask in the Vegas section of this forum if you don't know where this is.

Once you figure out where all of this is in your NLE, you can do some significant salvage....so don't worry.

Good luck.

Hi S AUDIO

Always do a proper whitebalance or use one of the PRST in camera and then check for exposure by hitting AUTO EXPOSURE button. I usually stop down even after that as I like my footage to be underexposed somewhat (Crushed blacks)

In Vegas...

IF you have this problem again; first goto Contrast and Brightness then use one of the many COLOR CORRECTION tools available to you. Either COLOR BALANCE, COLOR CORRECTOR or SECONDARY COLOR CORRECTOR. There is also a nice plugin you can use here:

Re: Help with ugly haze

You can also pull a "digital haze burn" that is common in still photography by applying the following:

Unsharp mask:
Amount: 16
Radius: 40
Threshold: 0

I can't seem to upload files at the moment. Must be my firewall. Go ahead and try it though. The difference is subtle but very useful.

This will clear up a bit of the haze but it won't help your contrast problem. For that you need to adjust the levels (set a black and white point preferably in this case).

Re: Help with ugly haze

You can save yourself alot of trouble later by using the ND when prompted and dialing down the iris.

Re: Help with ugly haze

Beleave it or not, I did have the ND filter set to what the camera was flashing. I always do the auto iris and then stop down but it was an extreamly hazey day ,really crazy looking not to mention freaking hotter than hell. It was so brite the view finder and LCD where very difficult to judge.

I tried to keep the camera off when I wasn't using it to conserve on the battery,so I had to keep W/B before each shot. Should have used the presets just as you said........

I went with a friend and had to deal with the "Hey Ron check that out". "Did you get this? Did you get that? "Hey Ron".
So the run and gun just was'nt working out.

Thanks for the settings to try and all the help!

Re: Help with ugly haze

I'll also bet your ped was set to 0 in your camera... right?

Drop that a step or three.
