hello
i got a problem with my FS7. if i use the camera with my metabones speedbooster the f-stop is always on auto.
means if i go from dark to bright the f-stop change automatically. sometimes i can change f-stop manually sometimes not.
already did a reset of the camera, full auto button is off, and i tried another speedbooster. same probleme.
this did not happend before, have the camera since 4 month.
as i dont have any sony lenses i am not sure if it is the metabones adapter or the camera. as i have tried 2 diffrent metabones speedbooster i think it may be the lens-contacts on the camera.
or is there something hidden in the camera menu? but i did an reset.
any suggestion.
appriciate any comment.
thank you

What lens are you using? Some just don't work with the adapters and others are picky.
Did you try using it in Advanced mode?
Occasionally I have to reset my lens & adapter or restart the camera but generally they work fine. Some lenses I couldn't use though.

hello Lenilenapi
i tried with a canon 24-70 f2.8 and a canon 24-105 f4. both of them did not hold the f-stop, changing the f-stop like in auto mode.
also did it in advanced mode, pushing down the advanced button on the speedbooster and turn camera on-off.
both lenses worked fine before the problem come up yesterday during a shoot.
really dont know whats going on.
could it be that the contacts on the camera e-mount have a problem? they look not damage at all.

I tried posting an answer from location via my iPhone but guess it didn't show up. If its somewhere and this is redundant, forgive me.
At one point you said went into the advance mode and did some sort of reset on the Metabones Speedbooster. Guess I don't understand because the Metabones Speedbooster I use on my FS7 with Nikon glass is passive. Only thing I have done is had the Meabones back focus adjusted. I would suggest you have yours adjusted as well because no matter what Metabones asserts, you will need to adjust the BF or you will have soft footage.
But to your problem of Auto Exposure. Unless you use E mount lenses, the FS7 doesn't talk to none Sony lenses so Auto Iris/Auto Focus cannot be achieved.
It sounds like your FS7 has slipped into Auto Shutter mode. There have been complaints about this happening when switching around settings or codecs. Happened to me and I didn't do squat. But that said, I'm betting the farm that if you get into your menu under CAMERA/AUTO EXPOSURE, you will find the SHUTTER is set to AUTO. This is a bad thing if you don't know about it. Only way to get auto exposure is by using the shutter and that's not acceptable...for the most part.
And as I suspected, I just reset my camera from 30p to 60i for an upcoming shoot and as I was authoring this post, I thought I better check my own camera and sure enough, the little sucker reset to AUTO SHUTTER ON. Apparently that's a default for the FS7. I hate that.
Hope this helps your plight.

Why do you leave a comment that is not relevant to the situation? You admit that you don't own such adapter and don't understand the functionality of the Canon version. Why do you start talking about back focus and auto shutter? Just for the sake of talking? OP clearly stated that it is the IRIS that keeps changing, not the SHUTTER speed.

Well sir, because as far I can tell the Metabones Speedbooster for both Canon and Nikon, are passive. With the only difference being the mount. So I just don't understand how iris could be affected...exposure perhaps, but I don't understand the iris issue. There are those who would use iris and exposure interchangeably when they are most certainly different, so it just trying to fully understand.
Perhaps I am under the misguided notion that only Sony glass can communicated with the camera. Would love to be proved wrong because thst would open up interesting lens options.
I thought this forum was to help and get help, not to be admonished for offering what I thought was a solution.
And again I will say as far as I know...there are no active Metsbones Speedboosters so I am still in the dark about the "reset in advanced mode" previously mentioned.
Instead of flaming me, perhaps you could enlighten me.

The Metabones Speedbooster for Canon is active. It needs to be active for the camera to control the aperture of the Canon lenses. It appears this has gone wonky for the OP.

weird. Is yours EF - E model? Perhaps the WO button on the side of the adapter is stuck? (that would at least explain the dark to light - as it's "Wide Open" - so when pressed in - it will take the Canon lens and open up to fastest aperture on that specific lens) I would also check to see if one registration pin on the e mount might be stuck and not making contact with your adapter

The mount is active. Otherwise how would you change the iris on Canon lenses which are electronically controlled? Not only that but even AF works on some camera in some modes, image stabilizer is powered, etc.

You did not offer ANY solution, that's the point. All you did is wrote about back focus - an unrelated subject, plus all the incorrect information about the Metabones not being active.

I offered the Auto Shutter issue. I found that to be true on mine.
Now I know there is an active version of the Metsbones.
How hard was that education? I've learned something.
Thanks for that!

Well the original OP is long gone while posters here continue to argue with each other - a common event on the boards. I think criticism of Allen is unfair.

The main point he suggested was to check auto shutter a very likely culprit as I've had the same experience and thought auto iris had gone mad.
With some lenses auto iris will work with meatiness though not with most.
Allen, Are you using mtabones with Canon or Nikon lenses. With Nikon it is passive.
