Help With Settings Please

I'm confused about what settings I should have the camera on when the final product will be broadcast in PAL SD Interlace. As I understand the Quick Guide suggests using 25Pn, but when I do and play back from the camera via sdi to a monitor I see strobing or some weird effect on pans that are not overly quick. If I also understand correctly 25Pn uses less room on the P2 cards. When I shoot DVCPRO HD at 50p the strobing is not there. I have to shoot and deliver Monday so I'm desperate as how to get the best from this camera.

Thanks Jane

50P = 50 progressive frames, which is the smoothest way to shoot HD. 25P = progressive, which means the film look but yes it does mean strobing.

If you like the "video look" that 50P gives, just shoot 50P.

Hi, so are you saying 50P is more acceptable for SD interlace broadcast ?
And have I understood correctly that even when shooting 25Pn it can capture 50fps, if so why then the strobing effect ?
Is there any advantage of shooting 720P when the final product is 576i? should I be using DVXPRO50?

Life was sooo much easier with Digi Betacam, my advice to anyone thinking about upgrading to HD, if you can wait until we end up with a more unified format. For myself I'm using the HPX500 in SD it makes more sense for broadcast. In as DVCPro 50 out to Digibeta without any complicated pulldown , cross conversion whatever. Yeek

Shoot in DVCPro50 if you are delivering in SD and don't need an HD path for in the future for that piece.

If you need to deliver in interlace then shoot in 50FPS. If you want a film look then you shoot in 25pN. You can't shoot in 25pN and the camera capture in 50FPS. Not that I am aware of anyway.
