Help with settings for first time use.

I just got my HMC150 (new to me) and would like a starting point suggestion for the settings. It will be used to record church services. As for lighting, it is probably not the brightest. There are a few spotlights on the ceiling, but they could probably use a few more. I have decided to start with HG-1080/60i, but need help with all the other settings.

I am having trouble getting my 150 to give satisfactory results. As said in my original post, I'll be shooting in a low light setting and my AG-HMC70, at the moment, is giving a better finished quality. What I would like to do is shoot a short video with the HMC70 and then a few shots with the HMC150 with different settings and upload to Vimeo and post the links on this forum. I guess I need to know what settings I should look at. Listed below
are most of the settings listed in the SW setup.

Buy Barry's book. Every situation is different and someone's "best settings" aren't going to be your best settings.
I would also shoot at the highest 1080/60i mode.

I agree that all settings will be different in each situation. I bought the camera used and it came with the book. The CD was missing, but I will deal with that later. I am reading through the book and the manual, but it is a slow process - especially since I am not familiar with most of the terms.
I intend to set up an experiment where I vary some of the settings, then ask for help in which ones to adjust. I just wanted to know if all of the ones listed in my last post were important enough to track. I just found out I have to travel next week, so will probably have to try and do it all in the next few days or to wait until I get back.

donnyb, here are some threads that I found that were helpful to me in tweaking my HMC150 to where I wanted it to be (For now).

Most of them are related to noise problems, or tweaking an HMC150 image to how you want it to look. The last link has to do with using class10 cards, and it saved my ass!

I know nothing about the HMC-70 and perhaps "HG-1080/60i" is a good way to try to match it.

That said "HG-1080/60i" is a formula for junk (relatively) from the HMC-150. You've got a camera that offers the "PH" mode and true progressive CCD imaging -- and that's really where you want to be. The problem is that explaining the previous sentence requires an essay or perhaps a small book -- like Barry Green's HMC150 book. I've also done some basic training with people on the HMC150 with Barry Green's "HVX Bootcamp" video (ignore the P2 stuff and 88% of it is a good introduction to the HMC150). For example, with two or three exceptions -- all of the function you listed are explained in the "HVX Bootcamp" video.

Bottom line -- your HMC150 blows away that HMC70 -- and trying to make an HMC150 look like an HMC70 seems like an awful idea.

Good luck!

I know that trying to make the 150 look like the 70 was not my ultimate intention. Right now, I am just trying to get that far so I can make improvements from there. I do have the book, but it is a slow process as I am not familiar with almost all of the terms. As for the Bootcamp DVD, I would probably buy one if it were "HMC150 Bootcamp". Maybe there is something like that in the future. I realize the 150 is a mature product, but it seems to have a pretty good group of followers on this forum. One last thing: the link to the sample footage does not appear to be working.
