Help with SD DVD

Hello All...

I have shot and edited a project HMC/FCP and am trying to burn it to an SD DVD. I have Compressor and am hoping that someone will have some advice on which options to choose (compressor settings) to accomplish this task. The project is/was originally destined for online deliver, however, the client would now like me to provide a SD DVD which they can play at trade shows etc...I have attempted to burn the finished version .mov ( the one that's posted online) to a DVD, but it cuts/crops the titles off.

Can anyone suggest an appropriate Compressor setting that will allow me to burn the finished project on a SD DVD as to not crop off my titles? I'm hoping that this can be accomplished and it's only my lack of knowledge re: Compressor settings that's causing problems.

Many many thanks.

I use MainConcept's AVCHD transcoder software to transcode to SD. You can choose to either crop the sides or keep it in widescreen.

Can's you just use compressor's built in DVD-90 minute Best quality setting?

That should work relatively well, even if you don't mess with any of the settings.

As for titles being cut off, I'm assuming you kept your project, title safe, correct? If, so you shouldn't have much of a problem.

Thanks for your suggestions :) I didn't consider 'title safe' (lesson learned). Is there a way to have Compressor export in widescreen as to keep the titles from being cut off? Again, many thanks...

not if the titles are outside title safe when you edited in 16:9. You could shrink the actual video down but it will look weird having black around the sides. I'd redo the titles and make sure they're in title safe if you can.

As a side note, you should always work in title safe...always. Even if you're just planning to show something on the internet...you NEVER know how things are going to eventually be played, so why give yourself a headache in the long term?

Not to mention, aesthetically, text looks better when it's not stretched out and hitting the edge of things.
