Help with rotoscope?

Commotion Pro is considered one of the best, if not the best, rotoscoping tools out there. It's available for Mac.

Commotion Pro is great! But you better have some paitence! Rotoscoping is not for everyone. If you were one of those kids who was good at coloring without crossing the lines then you have potential. I however have an extra copy of commotion, comes with original book, dongle, program it self and a tutorial sample cd. The only problem is its ver 3.0. My work had a fat grant and I decided to get double of everything. I no longer use it anymore because I gave up on the visual effects stuff. I got a team to do that for me now. :P

There are hundrend of tutorials on that you can check out. Rotoscoping is a ***** though!

dotn you export it as a filmstrip, or each frame as tiff images, then edit it frame by frame in photoshop? or after effects?

Rotoscope must have a movie analyse before starting, in many cases doing frame by frame rotoscoping will end in a poor result. The point is finding key frames for the roto, where subject has substantial movies.
What I usually do is to adjust it every 5 or 10 frames, so if the sequence has 100 frames I only adjust the mask about 20 times. Then I review the sequence frame by frame and do fine adjusts, but many times the interpolation is correct, so my rule is: create keyframes only when necessary, getting a smooth roto.
In some cases for fast and not constant movements you should need a frame by frame roto, but I got only few cases for that. Also rotoscope can help to correct chroma-key areas, remove undesired stuff, etc...
Another tool that many times can help rotoscoping is tracker, you can tracking some subject points and connect a mask point to the tracker, getting kind of automatic result, but sometimes a fine adjust is needed. Painting is another option for roto, I think commotion has nice painting features, but I didn't checked it recently. I use Digital Fusion, here is a roto tutorial: http://www.eyeonline.com/Web/EyeonWeb/Techniques/tips_tricks/newtips/tip_105.aspx
