i've been out shooting with my dvx - haven't worked much with this camera yet - and it seems that most of my shots are soft with very little detail when shooting wide.

i'm shooting in 24p squeeze. full manual except for focus. white balanced.

is this just normal for squeeze, shooting wide?

is this an "auto-assist" thing. i haven't really shot 24p squeeze in manual focus, checking for back-focus.

any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. the 24p looks nice - very filmic - but if the detail isn't there, it doesn't matter; 24p or not.

if you need any other information, let me know.

thanks in advance

yeah...just checked that. it was on -4.

barry's book said the defaul is "0" so i set it to that. will see if that makes a difference.

thanks for your input.

just tried shooting with it set on "0." didn't looking any sharper, though i did notice some color "noise" in highly lit areas.

Auto focus in 24p mode is going to be pretty slow to respond and depending upon the subject, may not be that accurate. You should try to shoot a focus chart (or baring that a page of printed text) to establish that your optical path is sharp and see if you can manually focus with good results.
