Help with Odyssey recorder

Hey everyone. I know the following questions have all been answered before in the forum. But, I’m about the buy a 7Q+ and need to confirm with you about some issues fast. I tried going through 100s of pages in the forum but it’s taking too much time. So I apologize in advance.
To record 12 bit DPX in 24fps:
1. Is an Odyssey 7Q+ just as usable as a 7Q? Because I know I have to go back to an old firmware. So worried that the newer model would not accept going back to an old firmware.
2. No need for any raw licenses, right?
3. What is the old firmware version that I need to record dual link 12bit DPX and where do I download it from?
4. The used unit I’m looking at comes with a 256GB drive. That is puny small, right? How many minutes of 24fps would that take in 12 bit DPX you think?
5. Anything else I should be aware of?

18.03 firmware will run on either. It is if you want 50p pro Rez, 12-bit 24p works with any firmware. 7Q+ has no advantage for F35, no raw either.

I’ve been getting the Samsung 256gb ssd’s for less than $25 on eBay, no need to get CD branded ones. Just buy pack of handles.

Thank you so much Yachacha.
Didn't know that any firmware would run 12 bit 24fps dpx.

256 GB ssd will give you about 17min record time 12bit dpx. For projects less demanding or if I'm running out of space on my editing station I record to Pro res 4444 12bit which will get me around 1hr 30min record time if I can remember correctly which is still a very good file to edit with.

if your a run and gun style of shooter I would recommend staying away from dpx unless you have a ton of cards ( I learned from my own mistake ) the cards fill up super fast and I had (4) 256gb drives. We had to wait on set for a while waiting for a back up transfer : / If I know ahead of time it will be run and gun style ( due to many reasons ) location availability, talent availability etc.. I will shoot pro res. If its a more controlled setting dpx is the way to go! Good luck my friend!

Wow! 17 mins in dpx vs 90 mins in 12bit prores for the same card and frame rate? That's a very big difference.
My newly purchased 7Q+ should be mailed to me soon and I will be doing a lot of testing. The reason I decided to finally buy one (I have a pix5 right now) is when I revisited the tests that rbirnbaum did a while back, comparing codecs. I noticed, opposite to what is mostly said here, that the biggest difference in quality was between dpx and 12bit prores 4444, rather than 12bit prores 4444 and 10 bit prores 422. But, I'll have to do my own testing to verify that.
Also, the used unit I bought has 5.10.100 MAR2015 firmware installed. I don't want to mess with anything, but I think I need to upgrade to a more recent firmware in order to use Samsung ssds. Is that correct? I have a 1TB Samsung 860 evo lying around. So that is about 1 hr of dpx storage right there.
I am very scared of upgrading firmware after what happened to Keisersosa when he upgraded recently.

I need some help.
I acted like a smart ass and bargained my way to a good price for a 7q+ but the seller kept the SSD that was supposed to come with it. I didn't care because I have a 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO. But, now I need to update to the latest firmware to use that drive. Ironically, I need a "qualified" and formatted SSD in order to copy the firmware to and download to the monitor. So I need an old CD SSD. Does anyone know if there is anyway around this? Can you update the firmware of the monitor any other way? Also, I can't see what SSD models qualified for the 2015 firmware (the current one I have). Am I limited to the ones that were specifically made by CD? It looks like I will have to waste $80 on a 256 GB SSD that I will never use after the update.
I emailed CD two days ago and they are yet to answer. I will call them tomorrow. But, if anyone knows the answer, I will buy an SSD tonight from ebay and save the time.

I always used Samsung 860 Pro SSDs with mine (512Gb) and they worked fine with all f35-appropriate firmware versions.

They say on the web site that the 860 only works with their latest firmware (2018.03). The 850 worked with older firmware versions. Maybe yours is 850 pro? But the question is how far back do the 850s work? My version is 5.10.100 MAR2015. I'm afraid I'll have to buy an old CD SSD just to update to the new firmware.

Quite right, looks like it was the 850 Pros that I had (they look identical). Well maybe try to find some of those for sale? They'll be cheaper than the newer ones.
