Hello all. I just bought a 28 inch lcd monitor by hanns g. This is to replace my broken crt. Now what happned is i do all my editing on my pc with this lcd but for some reason due to it being a lcd the colors are off. I know its not a production monitor because i cant afford one right now. What I was wondering was is there a program that color calberates my lcd to the ways the color should be? Please let me know. I will forever be indebt. Thanks in advance for all answers provided.

is there a program that does this though? i heard about something that does it im not sure where or what.

No, not really.

There are monitor calibration programs but they are more for still photography and computer screens not for broadcast color grading.

i'll second what dan said. thats the downside of trying to get accurate color with a consumer/computer monitor.

some are closer than others. sometimes even within the same model.

Damn. So what are good monitors you recomend to get for the most acurate color? Thanks again for all info.

i hope others will jump in and add to this, as there are folks here who CLAIM to have found consumer monitors with reasonably-good to good color.
but keep in mind "good" is usually a pretty subjective term... especially in places like this where experience (as well as expectations) from person to person varies greatly

i have this little sharp brand 19" hd lcd that i used to use for client comfort on low budget shoots and everybody liked it just fine. until one day when i rented them a panasonic btlh17 and the client noticed the huge difference in quality (both in color and image detail). from that day forward, the sharp has lived in the closet.

conversationally accurate broadcast accurate monitors are expensive, youre looking at about $1200 used and as much as $5000 or more new depending on size and features.

i recently bought the smallHD dp1. its a little $800 720p 9" monitor. i use it most for jib work. i was surprised at how close it was color wise, right out of the box to my panasonic btlh17.

like anything else, it has its good and bad points. but its one of the better ways i know to spend $800

I'll second the dp1. I bought one, after some input from WGZN and use it mostly to assist focusing HD, but I found the color reproduction to be very impressive.
