Hello i never be able to fully understand how autofocus works in gh3 video. I see there are 2 setting in the back wheel that go combined with some in the software side. Now i never got to understand what are the differences among all of the possibilities. I know that in some settings i can touch the monitor and having that part focused(but still nedd to press the shutter button..whic i don t like). THis is a usefule feature in video. Also is useful to undertsannd how to lock the focus when i need, on th efly.
Anyway, is there anyone that is so patient to explainthe possibilities, and expecially those that are best suit for video?
thanks a lot

When I owned my GH3 I ONLY used autofocus for still photography, and focused everything manually when shooting video because the autofocus was always too slow and jerky when shooting video.

For electronic lenses this meant changing the camera's focus control on the back of the camera to MF ( manual focus ) so that I could then use the lens ring to focus. For mechanical lenses like my old Nikon AI-S lenses manual focus is your only choice.

Yes dingo i totally agree with that and i use mostly old r9kkor manual lenses. This why when for.certain reason i want to use the electronic ones(lumix 14 42) with autofocus ...don t know what setting is preferably to use and how!

For still photography here are the control settings that you will find on the back of your camera...

AFS : Auto-Focus Single: Focus on subject then shutter 1/2 depressed. Will not refocus if subject moves.

AFF : Auto-Focus Flexible. Will focus on the subject once, then will refocus if the subject moves.

AFC : Auto-Focus Continuous. Continuous Focus with an attempt to anticipate the motion of a moving object.

Continuous autofocus for video is entirely unusable on the GH3, and almost entirely unusable on the GH4. The GH5 looks to be almost usable.

yes i agree with the unisability of the autofocus in gh3. As i said, though, there are some occasions where i can be enough satisfied with autofocus, and in those occasions i need to know how to use at its most. Sometimes, not for professional pourpouses, i just need to shot and go, and this is when i need to work quick with autofocus
