GH4 Help With Custom Buttons I think?

Ok so here we go with a real newbie GH4 question. I always shoot in 4k and downscale to 1080p and love the image out of this camera. I am a C100 shooter and never used any GH cameras before so trying to learn through trying things out and from you guys who use it all the time.

Is there a way to set up Slow Mo as a custom button so I dont have to go and set all the settings when shooting. I am always shooting live event type situations and every time I miss things trying to change the settings to slow mo. Maybe there is a thread or a video someone can point me too for instructions.

Just wondering if this is possible so when I am shooting I can switch between my current set up and the slow mo one.

Thanks

Yes, this is what the C1, C2 and C3 positions on the top wheel are for. Dial in the settings you want, then go to the 2nd menu (the wrench and the C) and the first setting on page one is Cust. Set Mem., where you can apply your current camera settings to one of the dial positions. Then you can just click between them. Just be aware, it saves EVERY setting, ISO, shutter, f-stop, so you may have to change those when you switch between settings.

Thank you so much!!! I knew someone here would help. I did notice I had to restart the camera when changing frequencies, if I set this will I not have to do this or am I changing the wrong setting or do I not need to do this when going to 96fps. Thanks again.

No, you don't have to change frequencies to enter VFR mode. VFR mode works in either 59.94hz, 24hz or 50hz system frequency. You only need to change frequencies when you want to switch from 24p to 29.97 or 50. So you can't have the C1 setting at 24hz system frequency, and C2 at 50hz system frequency. But since VFR works at either frequency, you can have C1 at 50hz, and C2 at VFR, or C1 at 24hz, and C2 at VFR. Another cool thing, C3 has 3 additional sub settings. So you could set C3-1 to your VFR at say 96fps, then C3-2 at 72fps and C3-3 at 48fps. You access these by turning the dial to c3, then hitting the menu button and the top C menu lets you toggle between them.

For me the most annoying thing is switching between Cinema 24 and 59.97. I want to shoot a wider C4K and 1080p at 60 fps(it has 2x the bitrate of VFR).

Are you sure about that? Even when the 60p is re-timed to 24p?

I find the ability to check for strobing in-camera during playback a valuable tool that's only available in VFR. And VFR makes it easier for the editors to spot slomo shots. Plus I often shoot 48fps.

If I read that right the author is suggesting shooting 60p at 200 Mbps. Didn't catch that in your post.

In that case the bitrate is likely higher, but we have two American Express commercials running nationally with sections captured in VFR on the GH4 which are virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the piece that was shot on ARRIs.

What were your settings on those... were they at 96 fps or lower. Just trying to find my way around this camera. Do you know of any great tutorials I can watch to learn all this stuff for the GH4. Even if they are paid options I dont care, just want to learn the camera.

Those were shot at 48 & 60 fps in IPB @ 100 Mbps.

Also a bunch of IBM commercials with sections shot 1080p24 IPB @ 100 Mbps. We did not capture 4K in order to minimize rolling shutter artifacts.

I see a tiny little rolling shutter in 4K as well. Probably you guys won't even look into A7S :)
