Ok ... so I got both my 35-100 f2.8 lenses today. Very sharp and I love them. Am I missing some setting on my cameras as I cannot get the lenses to auto focus on a moving subject. Continuous focus is set to ON in the movie menu. I remember earlier on seeing a video posted of someone filming their daughter riding a pony around a ring with the subject in perfect focus throughout the shot. Am I missing something ...please help!

AFS = autofocus single ( first time you press the start button )

AFC = autofocus continuous ( continuous autofocus )

@TheDingo I have set it to AFC ...what other setting do I need to autofocus on moving subject?? I can not seem to get it to work and this is one of the main reasons i bought 2 of these lenses for its "continuous" autofocus???

Do you have "AF Tracking" turned on?

Press the Fn3 button on the back of the camera to get the Focus Mode menu, then select AF tracking.

On the GH2, there's also a setting in the menus that asks "continuous autofocus?" Which is kind of silly considering there's already the physical switch on top of the camera, but if this menu item isn't set to "yes" then it won't AFC even if the switch is on AFC. Again, not sure in the GH3.

Thanks everyone .. got it to work!!

Hey, how did you get it to work?

I went to the camera store today to check out the 12-35 and 35-100 lenses and couldn't the autofocus to lock onto something. How is the autofocus working for you now and how you get it work?

@svem Followed suggestions in posts above ... In Movie Menu make sure Continuous Focus is ON and switch camera to AFC mode

Do you find the autofocus with the two Panasonic zoom lenses reliable? Do they struggle to lock focus and also do they lose focus and start to focus hunting? In my test at the store I was not impressed by the autofocus and it did not seem reliable at all for stuff like wedding. I'm thinking there is no way around manual focusing.

First. Are you trying to get it to AFC in between stills or during video? If it is video then that switch does nothing. There is a specific “Continuous AF” setting in the video menu to enable AFC during videos. For stills just set the switch to AFC to force AFC or AFF if you want the camera to choose when to use AFC or AFS.

This is the video of my daughter you were referring to.

At the end of this video is a very good example of AFC, in the dark, with extremely shallow depth of field. It isn’t perfect. However, this was with the 35-100mm @ F2.8 and 100mm. When the Canon camera finally stops it is probably just a little further than the minimum focus distance from me.

I only shoot in AFC mode for video now. The GH3 simply is good enough for me. I love how easy it is to do a focus pull with the touch screen as well.
