hi there,
I will be shooting for 15 days with an American crew that is coming to Brazil.
My clients will bring 2 cameras, a Sony HDV and a Sony EX1.
I have a HVX200 with firestore, so, we will shoot in 3 different codecs, DVCPRO HD, HDV and XDCAM.
I would appreciate any shooting workflow suggestions for this codec Babel.
thanks in advance,
Evandro

I suppose you shoot in NTSC ? I just finished shooting half of my film with 3 cameras: HVX in 720pn
HV20 in HDV 25p and some footage in DV 4:3.
the new FCP took ALL formats with no hitch! They all perform in the timeline and no conversion was neccessary ( I am in PAL). I think apart from the pulldown gripes in NTSC you should have no issues importing the files into a ProRes 422 session. FCP really astounded me this time :-)

yes,
I'm thinking about going to ProRes if I have to cut it down here too. but what about the frame rates? I am thinking about shoot 24p for the 3 cameras, but can the Sony HDV one do it well?
thanks,

It depends on the model of camera you have. For example, the Z1U and FX1's "Cineframe" mode is a poor excuse for 24p, and takes away half your resolution, while the Z7U, in contrast, is able to shoot both 24p thru pulldown and natively. Also, the V1U has 24p thru pulldown as well.

Which Sony HDV cam do you have?

thanks Aroon,

I was thinking also about shooting on 720p for both the EX1 and HVX200 and rescaling the HVR-V1U HDV footage in post for a 720 24p timeline.
Our final output will be SD DVD ntsc.
Thanks

Ok...the V1U can shoot 24p just fine, so as long as you remove the pulldown, you can edit your entire project in 24p.

hi Aroon,
could you clarify that please?
I downloaded the Sony V1U manual but could not find
any mention to 24p or any other frame rates.
thanks in advance,
Evandroc
