HELP!!! What happened to my footage???

Hey Everyone,

I'm freaking out...

I just shot a concert with 2 HVX200's connected to FS-100 Firestore drives. Both cameras were shooting 480i/24PA DVCPRO.

One firestore crapped out 30 minutes into the concert (it was unmanned so I didn't realize until after the show) but that's for another post...

I import the footage into FCP v5.1.4 using the standard Import P2 method - have a look at my footage and start to have a heart attack...EVERYTHING HAS VERTICAL LINES RUNNING THROUGH IT. I'm attached a quick screen grab to show you what I mean.

Someone PLEASE TELL ME that this is some common problem and that there's a really easy fix that will save my footage...

Any help is extremely appreciated!

There's nothing wrong, that's exactly what happens when you use a low-color-sampling recording method like DVCPRO or DV. Especially when you're shooting under red or blue light.

It won't look quite so bad on a TV, but basically you chose the wrong format to shoot in. It would have looked a million times better if you'd used DVCPRO50. All DV cameras struggle greatly with red-lit scenes.

You've got to be kidding me...

That really sucks - I chose DVCPRO because I need to deliver the 6 hours of footage (2 cameras @ 3 hours) in a raw format...

Crap - so there's not much that can be done then I guess.

a quick chroma blur will solve it. also the editor shouldnt give you crap because hes likely seen it before with other dv concert footage. part of the package.

Thanks TimurCivan - I just gave that a shot and it fixed it quite a bit. Really apreciate the help.

Guess I have some learning to do on colour sampling.

Thanks again.
