Hi folks,
I need to shoot a brief clip of someone looking out a window, and another brief clip of an upper outside window on an apartment, and I am getting tons of glare from the window.

Any suggestions? Any help appreciated. Thanks. Steve

There are several things you can do, depending on your budget. You can use ND film on the window. That's expensive but looks great. The other of course is to use a Polorizing Filter. Last resort would be to expose for the window and attempt to "fill light" your subject.

Hope this helps,

eric

It never hurts to have a clean window, a polarizing filter, and a little fill on the subject. That should do you fine. If it doesn't, try adjusting your angle. I love focus pulls through the glare on windows. One of my favorite cinematic effects.

And of course, use manual focus.

Of course , 1) optimise camera position and sun (?) time of day (w.r.t. glare) as far as shot will allow : get higher level of light (fill) on subject and turn iris down ; internal light reflected via white sheet on floor and up to window cill/up walls - or maybe spot from outside if face v. close to glass , and 2) polarise , polarise , polarise ! - we have a Hoya polarising filter for the DVX which makes tons of improvement (and is a 1/2 approx ND at same time). 3) if all else fails, REMOVE GLASS !!!
Good Luck !

Polorizer filter....or place the camera right up on the glass.

polorizing gives a minty shot - polarising is better, on reflection. ;)
