every time i shoot in low light i get alot of noise on my video, some appear as long lines, its hard to explain. one time i specifically remember i was shooting with 2 dvx's and i put them side by side and mine had noise and my friend's didn't.

help?

Turn the gain off. Using gain to compensate for low light conditions adds noise. The higher the gain, the greater the video noise.

The default setting of "Low" gain is "Off." When I got my DVX100B a year ago, I set the gain switch to "Low" (Off) and haven't touched it since. Like Blaine said, if your scene is too dark too shoot, throw light on it.

thanks, yeah i always shoot skating and snowboarding at really bright scenes, so i always used the gain, but now i'll just turn up the iris

6db max for gain. You really start seeing noise in the blue channel if you go any higher than that.

That doesn't make any sense. On really bright scenes, you'd never need to use gain. Gain is universally bad, and should only be used if you absolutely cannot add light to the scene, or if you intentionally want to add noise creatively to achieve a certain look.
