Hey everyone,
I wanted to write and tell you about a very exciting project that I've just become involved with. A few good friends and I are producing a currently-untitled film that we will shoot later this summer here in California. The film's premise is very simple: Three couples go on a rustic vacation to Boulder Creek, a small town nestled deep in the Californian redwoods forest, to relax during the Independence Day weekend, only to have the skeletons in their closet drug out into the light.
However, we are taking a very different and very experimental approach to the production of this film - an approach that deconstructs the very conventions of the filmmaking process. The idea is that, apart from the above premise, neither the filmmakers nor the actors will know the actual story until they arrive at the location. We aren't even naming the film until after it's been edited. Armed with detailed backstories, the actors will live out the film's story in real-time, with the crew present to capture every detail. By going entirely improv, the stage is set for anything to happen. And it will.
We're very excited about the possibility of completely redefining our approach to filmmaking and we believe that the result will offer a new perspective on how we all view traditional cinema and will provide a very unique and visceral story and character experience.
However, in order to make this film, we need your help!
We're looking to raise $3000 to shoot the film over Labor Day weekend. We're partnering with Kickstarter.com to facilitate the raising of funds in a way that rewards every single contributor, regardless of how much they pledge. But here's the catch - we only have until August 15th to raise the entire amount, or else the project doesn't go.
We have the project set up here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cameronbeyl/untitled-redwoods-project
From there, you can read more about the project, and look at the various rewards that are offered. Pledges for a certain amount are met with a set of incentives that will give you rewards ranging from a special thanks credit, to voting on the film's final title, to arranging a special screening in your city, all the way to Executive Producer credit!
Every pledge counts, whether it's $1 or $500! Again, our goal is $3000, which would go towards the Redwoods cabin rental, equipment rental, food, and transport. Literally the essentials! But don't wait until the deadline - the project is live on kickstarter.com now and ready to receive your love!
This is a truly original, exciting, and experimental project, and we hope you can be a part of it. Thank you for your support!
