I read the section in the HVX book, and I'm still a little confused.
When it says setup raises the black level, I don't get what this means - does this mean it makes all of blacks 7.5% brighter? If so, wouldn't that mean everything would look a little milky and there would be no gray?
Or does it mean it crushes the blacks, so anything that is dark but not quite black, all the way up to 7.5%, gets set to 0% black?
I really don't get that, and I also don't get this:
How then can you ever set up something right? For example, shooting with 0% setup in the camera, and editing it on a digital scale that reads the luminance values in percentages (0%-100%) - isn't that all inaccurate now anyway, if the black levels all get changed?
I think I'm going to need a THOROUGH description of how that works, because it's really unclear to me!
