Help Transferring DV footage into FCP

I have footage that was shot @ 480i 24f on a Mini Dv tape. Now I need to get it into Final cut Pro 6.0.4. I have a PC and a MacBook Air that only have USB connections.

If so can someone tell me the steps. I've read the manual but seems to only apply to P2 footage.
I tried to install the drivers that came with the camera, but their only for the P2 card and the install fails.

Is there a way to transfer the footage without a firewire connection?

If you need to get it into your mac and have a way to transfer files from your PC to the mac you can use USB to import into your PC and then transfer it to the mac. (wheww!!!)

If you have a bi-directional DV converter you could feed the lower quality analog signals (S-Video and separate audio) or component (higher quality) to that and let the converter send DV to the mac. Then use FCP log and transfer to import the digital file.

I don't think USB will reliably work direct to your MacBook Air.

sounds like the footage is still on the tape and not captured into a computer yet? do you still have the camera?

unfortunately, every DV camera I've ever seen only transfers video by Firewire (IEEE-1394). If you want to capture from the HVX, you will need firewire. maybe you have a friend...?

sorry, if I read your question wrong.

Yes, all the footage is on the Mini DV tape. I still have the camera.

My PC has an open PCI slot in the back. I could try to buy a firewire controller card for my PC.

Would I need to get Adobe Premiere (or some other program) for the PC or does the camera show up as a network drive?

I bought a Firewire Controller card for the PC and viola. I have no idea why they put a USB 2.0 port on the camera if you cant use it, but firewire works like a charm. Thanks everyone for your help.
