Hey there peeps.
I have a low budget Ariel shoot tomorrow. Hand held with a gyro. Would you shoot with the af100 or the hvx200, or both. It will be door off shooting. My thoughts are use the af100 @ 48fps over cranked right now. Anybody with experience care to chime in here.
Thanks

Im thinking a lot of kids wont be happy when you shoot Ariel. (Sorry its early and my humour button is out of whack).

Anyway back to Aerial shooting. I have never undertaken a shoot out the door with an AF100 (though I have done it numerous times). With a Gyro Id imagine however you'd be set. The question I'd have is what lens will you be flying with?

Yeah, stupid iPhone autocorrect on that name. Anyway, shooter I'd probably use the 14-140 for OIS and overcrank 48 fps

I would use the HVX200. I do quite a bit of aerial shoots and I have both cameras, the AF100 is more for a controlled environment whereas the HVX is more suited for the aerial scenario, where you have a limited time to get the shot, not to mention the wind, noise, etc, that you already have to deal with

While shooting "A Verse Before Dying," we used the AF100 handheld, shooting from a helicopter. We removed the heli door and had a small bungee rig supporting the camera. We used the 14-140mm OIS lens, and shot at 60FPS. The footage looked amazing.

I agree with Shooter and Mick. Go with an OIS lens, suspend the cam with a bungee cord from the door frame and shoot 60FPS. Limitation with the HVX200 is you can only overcrank in 720P - with the AF100 you can run 60FPS in 1080P. I've used both cams with great success.

We had no gyro at all (just the camera on a bungee) and we did zero post stabilization.

I made my own bungee rig with stage to lock the camera down. Works like a charm. Ive found sometimes, like in an R44 (think budget helicopter shoot out the door) theres no where to strap it up however.
